In Minn. going to get a blizzard tomorrow, then 20 below zero, am siiting down in my gun room looking all around, have 10,000 rounds loaded up for the coming summer.
I usually to go to the range twice a week, but now it's once a month at the police range, I almost can't stand it!
I have all my presses cleaned twice, all my dies cleaned twice, everything is in it's place for the tenth time, the guns are all cleaned,( don't know how many times), what to do, what to do.
So I just make a cocktail and just look around--- it's going to be a Long winter!!

Crikey... My wifes family all live in the upper central part of the state, near the border. I talked with her grandfather the other night... he said they've had snow since before Thanksgiving, and currently, it was 3 below zero... it's time like that which make me glad to be living a little further to the south, if not, I'd have 30 kids, and my wife would have to lock herself in the attic!

i am glad that i dont have that problem......yet...


if it were me i would make a last minute run for supplies and set to work to double that ammo stash! at least it would keep you busy and then you'll have enough ammo to go to the range twice a day rather than twice a week!

It did drop below 32 for the first time this winter a couple of days ago. Back up in 50's in the afternoon.

No baseball though. I am having withdrawals from that. sigh..........Spring training is months away.....

Iam in the middle of Cotton harvest driving a module retriever truck for the local Gin. Working 6-13hour days and no time to even reload. I have two rifles to work up loads for and no time.New stuff from Midway, Cabela's and Sinclllair piled up on the benches just waiting for me.

+1 on the doubling of your ammo stash. I am just starting to work through the pile of 5 GAL buckets full of fired brass at the tumbler. By March I should have my warm weather ammo supply fully reloaded. I love the winter as there are less interruptions, some of the guys stopping by and dragging me off to the range and such you know. Got to go and reload, summers a coming.

But I still have about 3000 rounds just in case.

Gonna use this winter to stock up.

Made 5 boxes just this evening.

I feel your pain, well some of it that is. Here in the North East of PA it shouldn't be this cold already but for the past few nights it's been in the teens and hasn't gotten much over 20 degrees in the day. I think it's going to be a cold Winter alright. My wife even noticed all the squirrels had very fat tails this year... Yup, gona be cold Winter!

Still warm enough to wear shorts here. But the bottom is supposed to fall out over the weekend when the front comes through. Makes me glad I don't live any farther north. Let's see what I have for a cold spell. Guns. Ammo. Books. Beer. I just can't mix em or I'll be in trouble.

Sounds like you need to start casting, then you can make about 10,000 more bullets to load, of each caliber for about 20 bucks each.

Hey Grub,
Ya, I don't cast now, I did years ago--- I may have to get back into it, I still have some wheel weights and other lead and of course some of my old molds that Lyman don't even list anymore that I bought in the late 50's early 60's.
I still have around 8,000 rifle bullets I did cast at that time.
Would you believe I am still using rifle primers I bought back in the 1960's, and not nary a problem.
However I did do a stupid thing a few years ago, I dumped all my old reserve powder out in the garden, 3031, 4895, 4300 and 4759, and of course I threw the cans away,--- price on some of the cans were $2.75 a pound.:banghead:
Now I'm older and wiser ( i think)

The pain, the pain. I too am stuck indoors in Duluth, MN unable to visit the range. Snow since before Thanksgiving with a prediction of 9 more inches tomorrow and sub-zero temps.

Maybe you can do what I plan, get an old beater gun and start a winter restoration project. With all the time we will have on our hands the next few months we should be able to produce a museum piece.

I went out and got a few rounds of here in Nebraska. I couldn't believe it was 50 degrees! Tonight starts the mess though, Wind rain/freezing rain/sleet/snow and who knows what else will get thown at us. But I got one more day in this year.

Well I am just learning and so far I have produced a bunch of lead muffins. I think I have I need now, It is either in the closet so my wife can wrap it up for me or it is in UPS's possession and will be here shortly. I can't wait to actually cast some boolits. It should be fun

I'm in southeastern Minn., so it's only going to get to minus 5.
I got out today and chrono'd some loads for my new USP 9mm, some new lead bullets loads for the .45 auto, and some plated WC loads for the .357 so I know I can load up some quantity.
Did some shopping and took the wife out to dinner so they'll be no complaints when I spend the next couple days in my cave reloading.

It,s time to make up some loads that you've been wanting to try,do up about and label 10 of each and when weather changes you will be able to burn away a day of winter. I do all of my brass processing in the winter I even trim brass that still within specs,then I count,sort and vacuum seal them that way when time come to do more loading the brass is nice and shiny and ready to load.
