So hows the turkey hunting in NE New Mexico?

Just wondering how the turkey hunting is up near Raton way. Since the THR shoot might be in May I may go a week early (if the season is still in then) to do some bird hunting. Seems you can buy tags over the counter for New Mexico turkey.

Anyone have the 411 on turkey hunting in that area?

the turkey hunting is excellent

but some of it is bow only near raton
i cant remember which exactly

I was headed west into Raton from Folsom (as in Folsom Man and Folsom dart points) and saw a fair number in some wooded, hilly country...Disremember exactly where, though.

Looks like the season went out after the 1st week of May this year. Hopefully next year it will run until the THR get together. If so, is anyone else interested in getting together for some turkey hunting NM style.
