and now the bolt does not work as smooth as it used to. I tried putting a little oil on the rails but it did not change anything.

There is one spot that has seen a bit of abuse but to replace it I would have to buy a whole new reciever it looks like.

Would graphite work or maybe Tetra grease?

The barrel is very dark, though the rifling is still sharp. I ran patch after patch through there but I after the first 10 or so patches could not get anything to "let go" from in there. Do I need some sort of super-solvent to clean it out?

Also I missed, totally and I am embarrased to admit it, that the underside of the stock has at one point been broken off and re-glued. It feels solid and I assume somebody somewhere shot it like that. Should I be worried that it will come apart on me?

I took the bolt apart and was suprised at all the muck that was in there. I cleaned it all out and it works fine, except for aligning the bolt heads; that was a stone pain in the fundament. So that at least is working out. A bolt is not something that gets lubed or oiled, correct?

Any advice for a mil-surp newbie?

On a lot of older bolts you do want to put a little oil on them, usually in the firing pin channel. My Yugo M24/47 Mauser had all sorts of problems when I first got it-FTFs and some extraction issues. I put a little oil in the firing pin channel after cleaning it out and the gun works fine now.

As for your bolt sticking, I would try a little graphite. I'm not quite sure how to help since I don't have any practical experience with straight pull bolts. I have a K31, but I haven't even seen it yet (dad's got it in TX, I'm in NH). Sorry I can't be much help.

BTW, how does it shoot?

I've heard the M95 will work better if the bolt is greased inside and out, so I do.
Tetra is good.
There's a lot of metal on metal motion going on as the action is worked, and friction can increase the force required to move the bolt.

Acheron, I have not shot it yet. Just got it and am getting familiar with it. I have guests over this weekend so I'll not get a chance until early next week, if then.

So there is no problem with grease in a bolt? Okay I'll give it a try.
