So I finally made my decision ( good handgun for 350 & under follow up thread )

So I ended up choosing the Sig Sp2022, but instead of buying a NIB model that was made in the USA for about 350 OTD. A guy locally offered a Sig Sp2022 made in 08' in Germany with the triple serial numbers & it came with everything as it did new....but it was also 400 dollars ( I still think it was a good buy though). Also this included 2 (15) round mags and the new ones seem to only come with one.
He told me this was a military import model and that's why it only came with 1 backstrap does anyone know anything more about this? Also what's the point of the lanyard loop? Overall the pistol fits pretty good to my hand.

PS. This is my first polymer framed pistol & first 9mm

Before this the only handguns i've had were a desert eagle & a .38 special S&W mod 60 pinned barrel. So this should be fun.

My other question I will throw out there is; are the +P rounds that much better for SD? What would be a good round for self defense (people, or rabid mountain lions LOL not joking) ?
Also can anyone reccomend a decently priced holster for a lefty, or anyone has one for sale.

One more thing are many there upgrades or custom touches available for this model?

Good choice. I love my SP2022. Mine is an American made version and it's been really a great gun.

Congrats!!

You will not be disapointed. This one really slides under the radar. I have the old school "2340" in .40 cal. The trigger should be really, really good. Mine digests and fires every type of ammo I can find. 0 ftf after 2000+ rounds. (mine was a LEO trade) so no telling how many rounds actually fired thru this pistol.

regarding carry ammo:

There are multiple, quality options. I will offer my personal opinion, and some quick thoughts.

My personal carry rounds are Speer Gold Dot 115 gr 9mm JHP. Shooting them feels almost exactly like shooting 115 gr FMJ practice rounds, which allows me to 'train with what I carry' without burning a lot of money. This particular round is bonded, so the slug retains its jacket consistently. Penetration is great. This round is extremely similar in performance to their 124 gr +P round, which is a popular round for law enforcement groups. While the round gives up a small amount of weight, it is also a little softer shooting. In my personal opinion, when the name of the game is 'quickly putting rounds on target', using a minimal recoil round is a good thing.

Others are very likely to offer differing opinions.

A great resource for selecting carry rounds are round reviews done by 'tnoutdoors9' on YouTube. His channel is fantastic.

Left-hand holsters are a pain (I should know I own a bunch). I would try Blade-tech for a holster and it looks like Blackhawk makes a LH SERPA for the 2022 ($50). The lanyard loop is typically used by military and police for weapon retention (with a cord). In the civilian world I can't think of a practical use for it.

I will probably try to pick a box of each of a heavier grain & a lighter grain to see which one I feel is better for myself. 50 bucks for the Serpa doesn't seem too bad

The lanyard loop is for ... lanyards.

I have used them in the past, when I was in the Army, where we also used to call them "dummy-cords". I have seen good come from using them. I have seen bad come from not using them.

Most of the time, it just doesn't matter. Use it or don't.

You did fantastic! A proofed German SP2022 with factory test target is fairly unusual and considered by many to be the "grail" SP2022.

In the rare even that you do not like it you should have no problem getting your $400, or more, back from someone else that wants one.

Yes, as far as I know, the German made SP2022s shipped with only the medium grip. As always there may have been exceptions.

Congrats. That is a nice pistol. $400 is a decent price.

For ammo, YES the +P rounds are that much better. Keep in mind all bullets can be effective given proper shot placement.

Had that one come up for sale in my local area, I would have purchased it..

I've been looking for an older sp2022, without the weaver ( or picantinny (sp)) rail, as I can't stand the way they look on a pistol. I know a lot of people like then, and look for them, when they buy, but I can't stand them....nice pistol, I'm green with envy...
