I have several and wanted to upgrade my benches. Instead of hand me down or "found benches" I thought I would build my next. So I got some 24 ft long square tubing- they cut it in half and I brought it home a while back. My shop is small and after tripping over the steel last week the weather broke enough to where I cut those in half again so I could stack the pieces standing up in the garage out of the way....

then the other day I started to cut and assemble some of the pieces

I had to shoot a bit of color the other night- any clues to what is going on her? :) I plan on mounting 2 650's and a rl1050 on her when she is done. I have to redo one joint- a couple more welds- some grinding/sanding and paint as well as the adjustable feet. Then I can pick a top and shelving materials. I may add a few more features but need to decide- It is a work in progress. Sturdy as heck being mostly 1 1/2 square tubing and some 1"square for additional lower shelving support. I miss the reloading bench thread from before the day that photobucket gutted it.

I miss that thread too. If nobody else has started a new one then we need to get on that. I had a few iterations of my benches on the old thread. I need to take a picture of mine now before it gets a facelift from the new press.

Nice
I wish I could weld like that.

Can’t wait to see it done as I’m getting ready to build my bench. It’ll be wood though as I can’t weld very well.

Ha- I am not that good but getting better- they do not have to be prettyto be strong- make a mistake? That is what grinders are for :) I recommend anyone handy get at least a 110 volt mig...just workat it and I bet ya can get passible in not long a time at all! I used to be afraid of it also and once I found the first 110 volt unit I went and bought onefrom Miller- that was 25 plus years ago. I have done many repairs and fabricated all sorts of stuff. I also bought several other welders. It is a fun hobby in of itself :)

I have a 110V Lincoln it’s a nice unit
I was using it some to learn before I moved.
I just don’t have enough time right now to practice enough to get good.

Grinders are like guns they multiply fast. Gotta have at least one with a cutoff wheel, one with a grinder wheel and one with a flap wheel.

Lol

you can build a lot of great stuff without being "GOOD" I did not take pictures of the "bad looking"welds :p And yest I have half a dozen 4.5 inch and a couple 7 inch grinders and LOVE the metal cutting miter that uses a true saw blade... then there is the plasma cutter :) That lincoln unit will is a good one too!

A bit more paint- some filler- some sanding and a move into a heated part of the garage to help dry it up. The room is a catch all at the moment :( While I was in there I had to take the "obligatory" equivalent of sitting in an unfinished car or homebuilt airplane picture by placing a board and a press on her pictures for an update :) I am not sure I need to get real fancy with the paint and all but it is easier now than later to smooth it up a bit- A bit of overkill- likely butits fun :)

But you forgot to be in the picture pretending you are stroking the handle of the press. After all, the car or homebuilt airplane pix don't count either unless you are making "vroom vroom" noises.:)

Nice bench!

I wish I could weld like that.

You welds start to look good once you have burned about 50 to 100 pounds of filler wire.

I did work the handle and made some noises - One of these days I will get serious about video and picture taking of "projects"but in reality no one wants to see my big ugly self :) As far as the burning rod comment- Like anything else- practice. I asked a national bullseye champ who was in my club when I started how to become a good bullseye shooter- he said fill a five gallon bucket with empty 22 cases from practice... I asked about getting good with the .45 and he said fill another five gallon bucket with spent primers from shooting bullseye :D words of wisdom!

I buy/use/a quart of Rustoleum Bed Liner paint, it covers a lot of sins.
like on this target I just built with paddles I bought on ebay:

:D
Edit: Is there a "things I've made thread", or "what I did in my garage today" type thread anywhere on this site?
2nd Edit: Changed the pic to something shooting related, not really reloading, more (un) reloading.
:uhoh:

I wish I could weld as well. All I used was a circular saw and well a lot of pine. It isn't perfect (not even totally square), but it does work well. I guess in the end that is what counts. :)
