Hardest / Easiest To Clean

Hardest (time consuming) ===== > Revolver (especially my 686+ w/ 7 chambers

Slightly easier (but still a pain) ===> 1911

Easiest =======> Mak, followed by Glock

In fact, I can clean my Ak-47 faster than a revolver/1911.

CLEANING

I agree that an auto is easier to clean than a wheel gun. What I want to know is, HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN THE DARN THING? If I only shoot 100 rounds a week do I need to clean it every week? Some folks say to wait till' you get 1000 rounds through it. What does every one else think? I lean more towards cleaning more often. :confused:

If this is a defense/carry gun, I recommend you clean it after every time you take it to the range. You may discover a broken part (or one that's about to break) during the cleaning time. Besides, it's always nicer to carry a clean gun than one with carbon all over it.

Otherwise, clean it as it needs it. I've shot half a case (500 rounds) in a single outing, so I know a good quality centerfire pistol will take that much quality ammo without cleaning.

I usually try to clean after each range trip, but on occasion (particularly if I've only shot a box or so) I'll let it wait until after the next trip.

If you're shooting suspect ammo, don't let the gun sit. I bought some Norinco 7.62x25 ammo that was marked non-corrosive. I took my CZ-52 to the range but then let the gun sit a day or three before cleaning it. That was a mistake--the bore rusted. Seems that the ammo wasn't completely non-corrosive after all...

WALTHER P22 tuff to clean --

My Walther P22 is a headache to clean. Taking apart is not so bad, reassemble is the hard part. It is close, tight when replacing the slide. Then you have that spring guide thing. :banghead:

Order of cleaning - AK's, SKS first: reason-corrosive ammo. :fire:
GLOCK 21 - ez as pie - quick and out of the way. :)
Wheel guns: alot of burnt powder to clean up, takes time
Mosin's in here, again quick - make some progress
Walther P22 - takes about 30-45 minutes total :barf:
Myself - get the lead and chemicals off my hands :D

I keep my stuff very clean. Everything gets cleaned atleast once a month, even if they don't get any range time. PM - it does make a difference. Keep your stuff cleaned and lightly oiled, ready for use in a moments notice.
