So I'm thinking I'm gonna have to fix my Uberti Remington...

Anyhow, I just got this thing about a month ago. Thought about selling it after the first range trip but I was shooting it last weekend and actually having a pretty good time.
But when I went to reload after my first cylinder the catch on the barrel that holds the loading lever up fell off. After a total of 18 shots through a new gun! (So much for Cimarron's extra attention to detail...)
I was able to finish shooting by using scotch tape to hold it up for a couple more cylinders.
I called Cimarron Arms on Monday and they gave me the number to their gunsmith. A call to him did not result in a return phone call but the message said it might take up to sixty days to repair my gun. Plus I'd have to pay however much it will take to ship it back to freakin' Texas after only a total of thirty shots!
This irritates me on several levels. Anyhow, Dixie Gun Works has the part I need and I'm thinking it's a simple fix to just get a new catch, fit it with a little careful filing, and tap it into the dovetail. An hour of work at most.
My question though - anyone know if this part will be slightly oversized? Because the other one doesn't fit the dovetail properly, which is why it worked loose and fell off. So if a replacement catch isn't going to solve my problem, I'd be better off just finding a gunsmith to add a bit of steel to the catch I have, then dressing it up and reinstalling.

Any advice about this would help, especially if you would happen to know if a replacement will be a little on the large size.

BTW - someone here mentioned using expoxy to hold the catch in place, but there is just too much wiggle in how it currently fits for that to work. It allows the catch to tilt away from where it should be, which will probably let my loading lever break loose under recoil and jam the gun up.

Use a center punch and stipple the base of the dove tail. This should tighten it up enough to stay together. You can add a couple drops of Lock tite for insurance.

The lack of support from the seller is outrageous, but if you still have the latch you don't need a new one. Clamp the barrel upside-down in a padded vise. Then take a 1/4" flat-nose punch and lightly peen in the top edges of the dovetail in the barrel, and this will tighten it up. Wipe both the dovetail and latch clean with fingernail polish remover to degrease them, and then put a drop (no more) of red loc-tite in the dovetail and drive the latch back into place.

Or you can send it to the Old Fuff who will fix it for his usual $100.00 fee, and send it back post-paid.

Thanks. I got the center punch tonight and managed to get the fit tight enough that I can't push it back in with only hand pressure. Now I gotta get a brass punch and some loctite.
Of course, I have both those things at home... just not at college.
