So, is this a bug, or a feature?

FINALLY took my 24" bull barrel highrise flattop AR to the range. Pulled my Tasco 8-40 30mm scope off my Savage .22-250 varmint gun, because it had Leupold QRW rings on it.

First rounds at 100 yards impacted somewhere.

Took the thing apart, stuck it in some bags, and bore-sighted. Started cranking on the turret.

Whoa.

About 5 clicks before I ran out of vertical elevation, I got a 100 yard zero. Popped a few rounds, on paper, and it'll shoot a solid half-inch group without a lot of work.

So... Any ideas? I'm gonna see the folks at Knob Creek.

Height above the bore shouldn't be a factor. It's no higher above the bore than a 1" scope I've got in a Colt mount on a low-rise flattop. On my rail gun, I've got a Weaver T-36 that's considerably higher. POI hardly changed when I moved it from a Panda. I'm guessing the rail was milled at an angle to the bore.

Now, if I can set it at 3/4" high at 100 yards, at the max, something just seems wrong to me.

I think you're onto something there, Bogie. The rail must be offset-I don't know if you can shim the rings enough to make a difference. Hope you like a short range bull barrel rifle!:what:
