So many things wrong with this description "1861 Colt navy .44"

To be fair, not all sellers on GB are very well informed. I am thinking that "Tackle And Field" doesn't have many C&B revolvers come through their shop, especially when you look at their other offerings.

Their "IT" person probably did a cursory search online for something that looked like it and decided on a description. They probably don't even know what CVA stands for as they think CVA is the manufacturer, no photos of date code / proof marks. S/N has a "B" prefix so I am leaning toward it being an ASM with all the pertinent info on the bottom of the frame (and no photo). Not a bad start bid for an 1860 Army brasser if one was in the market for one.

Where to start? I sometimes ask all sorts of questions of the seller just to find out what they actually know. Maybe that's mean, but I really get tired of folks selling mis-identified guns.

Regards,

Jim

Something about the phrase “brass framed .44 Navy” just boils the blood. I can’t decide if I’m more disappointed that they’re manufactured at all or that supposedly literate people actually buy them.

On second glance, couldn’t they have just called it a brass framed .44 Army?

There is an NEF Pardner single shot shotgun described as an SB2. Color case hardened receiver and the label Pardner as well as the fact it is a shotgun and not a rifle all indicate it is not an SB2. Either this is unethical tagging or the seller has some serious homework to do all around.

The seller did his homework, and he listed it correctly.

I agree with the quote.
Guess I'm just missing the 'problem' here, as I see no deception on this auction.

A quick search would reveal to anyone with the computer skills to be on GB SHOULD be aware that brass frame .44s do not
hold up as well as a steel frame and that CVA did not build them.

A check of BP auctions turns up plenty of Lyman 'Plains Rifles' as well as their pistols and cap revolvers.
Not all of them mention that the guns are made not by Lyman, but rather in Italy, either.

Same for the new crop of Winchesters made in Japan. Many just listed as Winchester.
And their contact address is in Utah.
Leads me to think they are tricking me into thinking the guns are made there?
Or that their parts interchange with the older Winchesters?

Just saying, JT

And a requirement to ship to an FFL (no C&R). Just more expense in order to obtain this abomination.
New Jersey is a solicit state all firearms including BB guns are required to go to and from a FFL holder> I know I live there.
I also know Field and Tacker. Go there when I need things. There is not much in MZ there. mostly Fishing archery and a few guns.
