I recently bought a CPO SIG 226. It is going to be my nicest auto (hopefully), my most expensive (barely) and my most valuable auto (only one or two of my revolvers would command higher used gun prices). So, I was thinking of dressing it up a bit while I'm waiting on the MD required waiting period.
I was thinking of adding some nice wood grips instead of the plastic that comes with them (though SIGs with the SIG grips do look kinda cool). Since mine is all in the dark finish (I think SIG calls the dark finish "Nitron") and not the dual tone I'm thinking a light or medium tone wood instead of a darker finish on the wood. I'd probably do Tulipwood or Goncolo Aves, but then I do like some of the darker woods like Kingwood, Pau Ferro and Coco Bolo. I'm leaning towards something from Hogue. I'm also leaning towards the checkered grips- I like the looks and it also provides protection from slipping, especially with sweaty hands. But I also like smooth grips and this gun is big enough I doubt it would be carried.
So, who do you guys like for SIG grips? What materials? Smooth or checkered?
I'm also thinking leather. I'm leaning towards something from forum member Holsters By Eric ( http://www.hbeleatherworks.com/ ). I'm thinking I may take this on my trips to PA as a winter carry gun so I may go with the HBE Com3 but it is big enough I probably won't be carrying it much (if at all) so should I just go with a Pancake holster? I am of course open to suggestions. I want a nice piece of leather that doesn't break the bank.
I have of course bought a few hundred extra rounds of 9mm for the first range trip or two and I've bought 3 extra (used) 15 round SIG mags for it (so with the 2 it should come with I'll have mags for 75 rounds of 9mm- hmm, maybe I should use it for occasional carry and as my travel gun should I need to leave for some disaster or other).
