Okay, so ever Glock introduced the G36 and then later redesigned their website with a grid showing all of their models by caliber broken down by "frame type" where the heck are the SLIMLINE Glocks in calibers other than 45 ACP??? People grab the Kahr P and CW series guns like hotcakes in both 40 and 9, it would seem that a Glock "slimline" 9 would be a big hit and take a bite of Kahr's seeming monopoly.

Anybody have any thoughts?

I'm essentially with you on this one. For now, however, it's up to taurus, walther, etc. to carry the torch.

First I would contend the statement that Kahr's sell like hotcakes. Not around here they don't. They do sell, but often Kahr's price point does not help them out. Lots of internet posts about Kahr's lack of perfection, particually in the polymer framed guns and some perception are they really worth the higher cost? Of the Kahr's I have owned they were flawless but that is not what I have read.

The Glock 36 the only "slimline" has been Glock's problem child from the start. It consistently has the most negative responses of any Glock (even 40 KB's).
I have seen posts where it had some early issues, the grip and feel people didn't like, shooting it was not fun etc,. I owned a Glock 36 briefly and it was my least favorite Glock and mine never had any issues.

In some ways it mirrors Kahr's in that regard, for many its a love or hate with little middle ground relationship. Some, like you, suggest other slimline's from Glock should have already arrive.

And Finally Glock's sales are good enough that if they choose to rest on their laurels they probably can for quite a while. The 4th Generation Glocks are to be unveiled at the Shot Show in January so at that point we shall see what Glock is doing in going forward.

I have nothing but nice things to say about the Glock 36. Mine worked flawlessly, and had astounding accuracy for a short barreled gun. I could hit 4" discs at 25 yards all day, if I held it still enough. The grip is not as natural as a Colt, browning, CZ, etc, but it isn't as radical as a G17. I find that grip shapes are just something you grow into, or get used to, in the course of gun familiarization. The more you shoot, the more natural it feels, unless you go jumping back and forth to other guns.

I would love to see a slimline 9mm and .40, but not if they follow in the footsteps of the 36. IMHO the 36 was horribly designed. A 45acp with a two-finger grip and a magazine with a wanna-be pinky rest? No, thanks. The shape of the backstrap is totally weird even for my normal, medium sized hands. To make a long story short, the g36 could have been better but the engineers were more than likely high on drugs when they designed it. If they made it exactly the same size as a 19 or 23, but single-stack (thinner) and .45acp, they might have had a winner. Just my 2 cents..

Honestly, I never thought they felt that thin. I can barely tell the difference.

I owned a G36 for all of about 50 rounds. The grip was awkward for me, it kicked like a mule, and it rubbed the middle finger of my shooting hand something fierce. Straight up traded it for a used S&W 1076 10mm at a gun show. Now I wish I still had that 1076. :banghead:

I never understood the G36 much myself. I handled one at a shop and compared it to a full-size 1911, didn't seem like much of a difference in size. And to call it a "sub-compact slimline?" I think it is anything but a sub-compact.

The grip might be shorter and easier to conceal than a 1911 IF they had flush-fit mags, but as far as I've seen you can only get the G36 mags with the "extension" on the bottom, so that negates any benefit from having a shorter frame.

All around it seems like a pretty odd design, but that's just my opinion.

i use to own a 36, good gun, just not as small as i want, a glock slimline 9mm would be neat tho!

I started this thread without actually ever having handled a G36 or seeing one in person, so if it's not up to Glock's standards then maybe that's why they haven't gone forward with more SLIMLINE models.

Just the idea of a Kahr P9 sized single stack 9mm with a Glock trigger and Glock reliability outta the box seems like a no-brainer to me.

I guess we'll see what's what at the shot-show in January.
