so which 17 hmr?

thinking about a savage model 17hmr bull barrel. just regular synthetic stock

or a mossberg 17 hmr bull barrel. So which? I already own savage 17 hmr non-bull barrel. I'm buying another one so i can give my other one to my bro.

any real difference in accuracy. Does the accutrigger make that much difference from the mossberg trigger?

I would lean towards the Savage for accuracy (and I assume that is why you want a bull bbl). The accutrigger is nice, but I think the gun is better than the Mossberg overall.

I had a Savage. It shot good groups but it just felt wrong. So I sold it and bought a CZ. It shoots just as good and feels a lot better.

Do you want it to look nice or do you want an accurate gun? I have heard a multitude of problems about these guns...from sticking bolts, poor fitment, to a bad trigger (though I don't know what the setting is). Whatever you get you need to at least shoulder first, but I would steer clear of the Mossberg. The Savage is a good gun, especially for the money. Very pleased with the CZ 452 Varmint 17 Hummer. Easy trigger mod to bring it down to 1.3 pound, near-match-quality trigger. The magazine needed tweaking to get it feeding smoothly without dinging the soft tips. Shoots minute of angle accurate out of the box with a Bushy 6-18X40mm off a front rest with either 17 or 20 gr in most ammo I have tried. Light weight. Ambi stock. Decent wood. Good bluing. Addictive to shoot, though, at about $12-14 per 50 round box.

The only mossberg I would buy is their 500 series shotgun. In matter of fact I do own one and its great. I have heard negative things about their bolt guns and their "plinkers" are so-so.

Agreed...Mossberg=Shotgun...shotguns don't need to be accurate (in general) so they do well, not so for a bull barrel 17HMR.

I like the Savage. Own a few, can't find fault with them.






But I like the CZ 452 better.

I have a Savage Classic T 17 hmr (thumbhole) with the really nice wood. The accutrigger feature is awesome. Most 17 hmr's out there are equally accurate so choose whatever fits best. Look into the savage synthetic 17's as you were.

My gun does have a pencil barrel. It makes the gun lightweight, but it heats up relatively fast. I just wanted to assure you that the bull barrel is a good choice.

Why not spend a bit more and get a pretty one, like the thumbhole laminate Savage or similar?
