SOB Question

The holster came in today. I have to say that I actually like it so far. It prints some, but that's to be expected with a OWB holster. It's comfortable to wear (I only wore with around the house). The draw is easily within reach, and I don't sweep myself at all with this holster and the angle in which I unholster the gun. I can see myself wearing it this Fall and Winter with a jacket or sweat shirt. The only issue I see is that the holster does show when I sit down.

Nice!

Having flashbacks. That is the exact same set up I had back in the 90s. I no longer have the K9 {mistake getting rid of it} but I do have a Kahr P9. Maybe I'll try again?

As long as I was standing up and wearing a shirt/jacket of the needed length, no issues. All bets were off if I was bending over to pick something up like a case of bottled water at the grocery store, or rising from a seated position like in a restaurant or exiting a vehicle.

Completely negating the risk of falling on your back and risking paralysis, I stopped carrying SOB for 2 reasons. Most importantly, I have back problems. And having a 1-3 pound mass of steel sitting on my spine made them worse. Second reason is it was harder to conceal. When carrying a firearm at the normal 3-4 or 8-9, rolls of your body help hide a firearm. The lower part of the rib and flair of the pelvic bone are biological areas that help hide a firearm. The small of the back is typically flat and makes bulges more pronounced...harder to conceal.

^^^^Winner, winner, chicken dinner^^^^
I think you were the only one to mention the very real possibility of a spinal injury not to mention half of older men have or will get shoulder problems negating their ability to easily reach behind their backs.

Every police officer I ever worked with never carried anything within a few inches of their spine. Doesn't matter if it was something soft like a pouch for disposable gloves, nothing went there. Small pearls of wisdom are sometimes the most important things to learn.

I was told by someone that worked with a sister agency that they'd had a (female) detective carrying SOB who took a nasty fall in a jail sally port and suffered a spinal injury, was out on L&I (worker's comp) forever and eventually medically retired. I have never, ever personally met any true professional that carried SOB, but I've identified a lot of amateurs who do so. Poor concealment, awkward at best draw stroke, dangerous ... no reason to carry in this fashion when there are so many other effective methods of concealed carry -- including: (shocking, I know) OWB on the strong side.
