So, I decided to hop on board and give it a shot. Sorry for the terrible pics, but here are the results. I have a yellow CV trapper soaking right now too.

To me forcing a patina is a kind of forgery...it is a fake trying to pass for real. Kinda like going to the trophy shop and buying yourself a first place trophy instead of actually winning one. None of my carbon blade knives that I bought new have a patina, instead they get wiped down after they get used and at the end of the day. Knives I bought used like my 1920s era Remington Boy Scout knife do have a patina and on old knives I leave it be.

you know......it is entirely possible that people just like the look of the patina.....and dont want to wait several years for one to begin to form......and the patina also helps to protect the blade......so forcing one is kind of a win-win.

If you cut any fruits, vegetables or meats with a CV blade, no matter how well you wipe it down it will quickly patina. Here's mine with seven months of use.

I don't know what your soaking them in but if you have an orange or apple layin around just stab it and leave it for a day or two:)

I found a sod buster jr at Lowes in the check out lane. $17.00, I bought it because of these threads just to see. I was impressed. That little knife is really sharp and handles well. I have a Swiss Army knife tinker that I abuse. I think I like this sod buster a lot.

Rayman - I have one of the same Sodbusters, though mine was $18. :(

Unfortunately, ours don't have the proper type of blade steel to take a patina like the ones shown. Doesn't stop it from being a great knife, though.

Kingpin, yeah I get a 10% military discount at Lowes. This knife is fast becoming my favorite beater "EDC" (I hate that term) I dont know the steel type but it stays sharp and is the right thickness for doing a lot of things like opening boxes to striping wire.

Been using a Case SodBuster Jr. for many years now. It broke my heart to loose my first one and then wsa suprised at how much the price had gone up ($29.00) in 8 years for one.
This knife has all the attributes , good Stainless blade (holds a great edge!) heavilly built and it is very easy on the pocket, nice rounded edges and nothing to make it uncomfortble to carry!
