Solder and front sight

I have a short barrel on a cap and ball "Natchez Special", belly gun. I want to add a front sight. Originally I had planned on just a simple drill and tap for the typical brass bead. Now I have it in my mind to use an old dime, cut down for a front sight. Cut a slot in the barrel and cold solder. Well colder solder be strong enough? I guess I could silver solder it. I have not blued anything yet. Thanks.

If the slot fits correctly, soft solder should hold.

Even better would be low-temp silver solder like Force-44
