I'm not sure why he doesn't use an M12. I presume supply chain issues, or maybe the 1st one broke and he was just SOL. Gotta be pretty desperate I guess to work through 3 Iraqi holsters in under a year. Hell he had to go Mexican carry one day. He was laughing about it and brushing it off -- damn near made me want to cry. SOB shoulda told my brother on the phone what was happening. It's not like he doesn't know I'm a "gun nut."
Anyway, I think I'm going to pick him up one of Andrew Wyatt's suggestions. I just shot a link over to him for review. I don't personally own a 92FS (too dang big for my hands) but as somebody else said the CZ-75 should fit in there well. I'd like to give him a little eval time with the thing for familiarity before he heads back out --- and I've got a CZ for him to fiddle with.
While I'm not in the least bit surprised, and this wasn't my original intention of the post, but I've already gotten two emails from one fellow on THR that makes holsters who wants to send him one of his rigs for free. Another fellow emailed me telling me he'd pay for whatever I picked out. Totally above and beyond what you'd see on most boards. Certainly says a whole lot about our little community here.
The following isn't written to try and provoke any more charity from members here. I just feel since I've solicited you for advice you should know a little bit about the fellow.
He didn't sign up in peace time and go kicking and screaming to the Sandbox. Forces were already deployed when he went to the recruiter and knew full well what he was getting himself into. He tested high enough on the ASVAB to qualify for a tanker position so that's what he went after. He already had a steady job stateside (nothing great, but comfortable) but figured this was something he needed to do.
He's got more guts than I do, that's for sure.
Oh, and the bit we heard about CLP being horrid in a desert? It's true, according to him. I had no idea he had an issued weapon (M16A2 and M9) else I'd have done it earlier but I'm sending him back with a nice kit of MILTEC-1 stuff. He hasn't had any jams but that's because he figured out quickly to get any excess CLP off his firearms. Cleans 'em daily and cleans his mags out once a week (at least with the M9). No problems yet but a little extra help with some lube better suited to the area can't hurt, right?
I thank you immensly, and if anybody has any further suggestions I'm all ears.
