While its not as refined as my Brown the TRP is probably the best 1911 you can buy for 1400 or less. MIM or not, I bought mine for 1250 though and swapped out a lot of the MIM for total honesty.

First mag it had a slight hitch chambering a round all the way. Since then it has NEVER had a failure. Pretty accurate to boot.

For what youre talking pricewise nowadays though Id look for a Baer, maybe a Premier 2 with fixed sights. I paid 1823 shipped for my TRS with custom options. I think the P2 with fixed sights can be had for 1600.

I suggest Not getting one until you have Fully enjoyed your other Purchases First. The Reason I say this is Cuz once you have gone "1911" you're more than likely to never go back!! ;)

Thanks for everything

I think that my goal of buying 'just one' may be a faulty goal. As I had originally feared, there really isn't a 'best for the price' product out there. All all are pretty good some have their preferences. I think what I'll do is save my pennies and get a SA loaded combat model (~700 bucks) and then spring for a Professional or Les Custom or other high end number...

Anyway I think i'll just learn by experience... I don't even own a 1911 yet and would like to put a few thousand rounds through my own to see what I like and dislike.

Bang for buck its hard to beat Dan Wesson. Their Cbob has no MIM parts, and I believe the full size Valor also has no MIM. The Cbob can be found under $1000 and the Valor under $1300. The valor has a forged frame and has the classic 1911 look.

I have a Springer Loaded, and would take the Valor over it if I had it to do again. The DW line of pistols provide a lot of value for the money. The customer service is also top notch should you need it.

BTW plan on buying more 1911s. They are deceivingly addictive.

Tucker,

After you get the "feeel" of your new gun running and what it wants to eat to shoot straight, You'll be changing parts and making it your own. MT Gunny is right on about never going back... 1911s Rock!!

My first 1911 was an early Gold Cup. Got talked out of it then owned and and shot just about every auto and revolver out there. Always thought about how well that GC felt and have slowly migrated back to shooting Colts, Springfields and my hand built Essex framed commander that shoots as well as any of the "name brands" but for a fraction of the costs.

My 2 cents... grab a $700-800 deal on a Colt or Springer and SHOOT a lot. You'll know when to jump for a trigger job, oversized bushing and a NM barrel link. In fact, if you grab an RIA for $450, it comes with a great trigger and beavertail safety already. Ed Brown and Wilson both make drop-in match grade barrels and bushings for a couple hundred or less. Not to make a book of this but grips make a BIG difference too. Big hands like mine love Hogue finger grips or the Pearce variety.

Anyways, u don't need a "Cadillac" to get reliability and a great running piece.

Hope I ain't a Flame magnet now.
;)

The two you mentioned are great choices, Springer TRP and Sig's line of 1911's.

I got my TRP for $1000 on the nose just a couple months ago. It has had lots of Brown internals added, as well as a welded on magwell. Just to show the kind of deals that are out there.

I also have 3 Sig 1911's, a full-size stainless, carry Nitron, and RCS. All 3 have been excellent guns, and again I got great deals on them all.

Picking favorites is just impossible, depends on the 'mission'. But I can say that of my around 10 1911's, if there was a bug out situation and I could only grab one, it would be the TRP. In operation it's flawless, and I have 100% confidence in it's reliablity.

Forget Springfield, Kimber, and Colt if you want dead nuts reliability.

Wilson or Les Baer, imho.

So, you are saying Wilson and LB have never, ever had even 1 product that had issues/needed warranty work?

Of course, Wilson and LB are mighty fine.....but let's not be silly.

My series 80 Colts have been 100% but I agree with Markallen about Remington Rands. A nice one will run $900 to $1200 and has a cool factor that just is not made now. Mine is a 1944 and runs 100%. It's made for combat and brings a smile every time I pick it up. This is the one to pass down to your kids/grandkids. I like Springfields and Kimbers and others are all right but for me Colts and real GI 1911s are the ones I keep.
