Hey fellas, gonna try something new tonite. I want to try and load some 158gr LSWC with Power pistol in 357 mag brass. I couldnt find anything exactly in print for what I want. I found a 158gr JHP load for 357 using 8gr of Power Pistol for like 1035fps. I also found a 38spcl +p with power pistol with 6.0gr supposedly at 950fps. Obviously the 38 load would be safe to use. I was thinking about starting at 6.5 and working to about 7.5 with some test loads and going out and shooting them to see what I could come up with. Any suggestions out there? I would honestly think that 8gr wouldnt be overpressured, but I surely wouldnt want to jump straight to that.

I have searched my loading manuals, acurrent Alliant reloading brochure and the Hodgdon without finding a combination of Power Pistol/158 gr LSWC bullet. Therefore I have to conclude that it is not a workable combination. This powder is too hot for lead bullets.

I have found data for 15gr lswc 38 spcl +p loads on alliants website. I have used it with good success in 45acp with lead bullets. I think I will take the jacketed data and reduce it. I am considering using 7.0, 7.2, 7.4 and see what happens with it.

I just cant help myself, I want to see what I can do with this in 357 magnum.

If you look you will note that Alliant doesn't provide hardly any lead bullet loading data execpt for their own Speer lead bullets. In fact they do not provide any Jacketed bullet data for other brands either. You have to extrapolate from the weight and bullet profile of the Speer bullet to find a load for others. Hodgden is not much better.

If these companies would just wake up and give up on trying to steer you to their product and provide a range of data like Accurate and it's corporate siblings they would be able to sell a lot more of their powder. The Accurate Reloading Guide shows min and max loads for the 158gr lead bullet for both their #7 and #9 powder. Either one of which would be good for 357.

I plan on using #9 sometime, just havent yet. I just want to see what this stuff will do. I dont feel its unsafe, although it may prove to be a poor load. I was told the same thing about using it with lead 45acp. It worked great.
