The university where I work has an indoor range and a smallbore rifle team. Its a club, not a varsity sport. My buddy is the coach.

The university also has a program called Late Night, where they make different activities available from 9-1 on Friday nights, as an alternative for something to do other than go to the bars. On a Friday night in mid October, not sure which one yet, The rifle team is holding a late night event at the range where students can come in and shoot. I've been asked to help run the event.

This will be a HUGE opportunity for some good pro-gun PR at a very liberal university and a good chance to get some new shooters exposed to the sport.

Then, the following Saturday morning, we're taking a group of theater students to a local outdoor range to shoot a variety of guns. We started this last year after being approached by a prof in the theater dept about giving a class on the operation, cleaning, and safe handling of the guns they use as props in their classes and productions.

We had about a dozen kids and spent about an hour going over proper handling and safety, then we spent about an hour on the range, then about an hour on cleaning. The class went really well last year but we ran out of daylight and the kids were disappointed on the shortness of range time. The kids loved shooting everything from .22s, to 9mm pistols, to .357 revolvers, to Mosin Nagants, to ARs, to AKs, to Garands.

This year, we're expanding the class. Doing 2-3 hrs of handling and safety one evening, then 3-4 hrs of range time the next morning, then 2 hrs of cleaning. We're also getting some $$ to cover ammunition costs.

to paraphrase Sarah/Hillary/Nancy... If all this work can change the attitude of one child, it'll be well worth it.

Bless your collective hearts!

Hope it goes well.
