A buddy of mine wanted some synthetic Ivory grips for his '62 Pocket so I made him these
In return he gave me some nice zebra wood so I made my 3rd Dragoon some new shoes
Thanks y'all. Crawdad I honestly can't say where that wood came from as I stupidly threw the box away.:banghead: My buddy that I made the grips for got it online and had it delivered to me. There are multiple suppliers of exotic woods on line that you can pretty much get anything from.
The synthetic ivory can be obtained from RT Research Corp. Look at the "PLIABLE" page. As a matter of fact Iam working on a set for my '60 Sheriff right now
The wood was from www.cookwoods.com it was about $20 with shipping maybe a little more tool can tell you how many grips you get from it
The ivory material is from a company that makes reconstituted gem stone was closer to $60 for the smallest block they sell. It has a wonderful golden swirl pattern to it that just don't photo well. I don't think it yellows with age like plastic or micarta. Expensive stuff but well worth it
So since I gave you enough for two grips that mean I got another one coming? I'm really looking forward to getting this back this gun spends more time getting redone than here. What did you think of the mods Dragoon did like the cap guard?
Thought the mods Dragoon did were so good I have been tryin to trade him outa some. Course the mods were so nice I would pay money fer em. The hammer stop and the bolt block are freaking good, simple, ideas that work right nifty.
The funny thing is I really didn't have intentions to be a gripmaker. What I wanted was to have Super Blackhawk frames added to my ROA's. I couldn't find any for any kind of reasonable price so I just made me some oversized grips. Then a feller traded me some nice burl walnut and I decided to put some on my Walker so I had to figure out how to make one piece grips. The synthetic Ivories above are only the second set I made for someone else. Now I have several people wanting grips
