The original 8mm Lebel ones worked just fine. The 30-06 conversion was terrible and caused the issues. Had we had something any newer than the Colt 1895, we wouldn't have had to use the Chauchat. I mean, we sent Issac Newton Lewis, an American Army officer, packing because we didn't see the need for a light, by the standards of the time, machine gun. Oops...
