As promised I went back out to the range today with 3 more loads to test. All loads are 10 grains of Goex FFFg, topped with cornmeal, and various bullets. All shot from a Walker with R&D conversion cylinder.

150 grain El Paso Pete Big Lube Bullet:
574
567
554
538
564

180 grain Buffalo Ball-et:
528
521
539
558
532

230 grain ACP bullet
494
518
485
469
492

Just out of curiosity I also loaded 5 more Ball-ets under various powder charges, + cornmeal if needed. Here's the results and a video of that test.
10 grains 539
20 grains 783
30 grains 961
35 grains 993
40 grains 1057.

Unless a person just really likes WartHog loads, 20 grains is plenty sufficient for CAS. Anything over 35 grains will violate the SASS 1000fps rule.

I'm amazed at the speed you're getting with only 10gns worth.

I've been wondering just how fast my C&B guns are going with the 30gn charges behind the regular round ball. I must be right up there near the limit.

I really need to get my own chrono set up and try out some of this stuff.

I was surprised also. I was also surprised the 150 grain bullets were faster than the 140 grain round ball. I reckon the flat based bullets seal the bore better than the RB.

And I'd think the friction of a greater bearing surface created more pressure.
