Went to the woods again today to shoot some of me favorite .45 loads that actually work!
They're 230gr LRN under ~5.3gr of Bullseye.
I've noticed several things with these loads:
1. They're smokey. A shot usually has a puff of smoke come with it and it does smoke very awesomelike out of the breech and barrel. Cool.
2. LRN expand. A lot. But they punch through stuff, too. In my case this was some thin board and a phonebook, and then some dirt, but at the end of it they deformed into very wide pieces of lead that well, might as well have mushroomed. So why is it such a bad idea to use that very same round that can still penetrate and expand as a defensive round? Am I missing something?
Secondly ... .22s ... they are still guns. Guns are powerful. The "anemic" .22 out of a revolver did some severe damage to various pieces of wood of various thickness and firmness, as well as a one phonebook, but one thing was common throughout the shooting. .22s would freakin' HURT! And they'd ruin someone's day! Never underestimate "just" a .22.
