very cool. shooting through a cinderblock?? I assume it was pretty stable... it looks like it might tip the stack over toward you and bugger up the shooter or the rifle. :D

I have this tendency to keep using stage elements as long as they trip people up or they complain about them, so the low short port through the cinderblock keeps coming back. It's "just" short enough top to bottom that if you stick the fore-end through and try to keep the rifle vertical, it'll block the sight picture on an AR-15. In that rifle stage, we had only three targets (approx 6", approx 10", approx 12x14") and four positions: offhand, through the barrel, through the cinderblock, and over the wood barricade. 200 yards. Easy, 12 rounds, right? The average stage time was over two minutes. Best time was 61.17.

We had a combo rifle/pistol stage, a big pistol only stage, a shotgun/pistol stage, and then this rifle stage.

Evil.

AR forestock on hard surface: why?

Zak, could you please comment on the practice of resting the AR's forestock directly onto a hard support surface, like the 2x4 frame shown?

I noticed that with my wood-stocked bolt-action rifle, resting the stock directly on a log, a rock or other hard surface leads to a great loss of fine accuracy. The rifle effectively bounces in erratic ways, unless I lay a folded jacket or pack or my forearm over the hard support. Why is this not the case with ARs?

Somewhat related, I recall seeing a Todd Jarrett video where Todd is firing a 1911 from prone, with the pistol butt firmly pushed down onto the shooting mat - rather than help up off the ground. He was getting good and fast results. Is this the same phenomena as with the AR?

Context to my questions: I have little to nil experience with AR rifles as I only shot one 3-gun match, with a friend's rifle. My next 3-gun is this June.

through the barrel

The second round I touched off in the barrel was bad. The muzzle brake put a hurting on the sandbag and it wrapped around my barrel/handguard and blew all kinds of gunk everywhere. When I figured out what was going on, about a zillion seconds had gone by.

I didnt mind the cinder block roll over prone at all. Pretty guns suck. Although a big old gouge on my new OBR made me twinge a bit for about * that long. Chicks dig scars.

Fun match. Thanks for putting it on.

Too bad that Nancy Justin stayed home to catch up on his knitting.

Whatever, dood. That match looks like no fun and too cold. Nope, I spent the whole day inside a windowless classroom.

Not even 3 Gun is that much fun.

Nope, nosiree...

Thats not what everyone else was saying...

Seriously, it was not that cold or muddy.

Lots of tough shooting. And we got to watch Curtis break his SLP and then lower himself to using my Benelli.
