When you find out, let me know..
Looks like the very thing so many have had a disdain for
may be reversing. Still a long way to go, but hey got to
start somewhere. We as law abiding firearm enthusiasts
etc, can use all the positive attention we can
get regarding our interest..and from CBS no less. >

MUNCIE, Ind. -
Erik Estrada and other lesser celebrities have been sworn in as reserve officers of the city police department here, allowing them to carry badges and guns as part of a reality television series.
I just hope this doesn't backfire. Perhaps I'm just
reading too much into it. With the Dems in control
though, we'll need all the backup we can get.

What do you think ?

Not a good thing

Latoya? JACK OSBOURNE???!!!???

This will be silly bullcrap. Odd that they labeled Eric Estrada as the star, the others as lesser stars. They are all lesser stars.

This will be a Reno 911 reality show, without the comedic talent. No way it will benefit gun-rights. Their weapons will probably be fake, and scenarios made up. Jack Osbourne arresting some drugged up violent felon? Hah , aint gonna happen.

There have been "celebrities" with CCW priveleges for many, many years. One of the first that I'm aware of was Ronald Reagan, when he was the President of the Screen Actor's Guild....and his permit was NATIONWIDE! That was back in the 1950's.

The Sheriff of Los Angeles County has handed out so many CCW permits to "celebrities" that it has become a joke. They're all part of his "Celebrity Posse". The Sheriff even APPROACHES "celebrities", to find out if they'd like a CCW permit! If you're a "common" citizen, however, forget it!

Back in the early 1970's, I met an actor that may not have much in the way of name recognition, but he was a very well-known "character actor". His name was Leo Gordon, and he was a HUGE man that usually played bad guy parts. Leo Gordon had been a Pasadena Police Dept reserve officer for many years!

The guy that played Eddie Haskell on "Leave it to Beaver" (can't think of his name) was a full-time LAPD motorcycle officer....until he was wounded in the line of duty.

Another "oldie" is the actor/singer/host of a TV show, Bobby Sherman (His TV show was titled "Where the action is", for you old pharts). Sherman has been a reserve LAPD officer for many years.

Yep, Elvis was an "honorary" FEDERAL agent (FBNDD, now the DEA), given his I.D. card and badge by President Nixon. I think that Elvis also received several other "honorary" LEO posts.

Hey, even "Snoop Dog", Calvin Broadus, carries a firearm....and goes to jail from time-to-time!

Is this a joke? Does that mean they can now carry in all 50 states? I guess it would depend on their department rules. Pretty sure its going to be staged

Starz

More like a publicity stunt/ photo op for fading stars, I'd say. Hope nobody shoots themselves...or anybody else...in the foot so that the antis can raise the cry that "Private citizens have no business with handguns."

This could go wrong. They should've recruited Tom Selleck and Bruce Willis.

I'm thinking...

we need to see some episodes of this before we declare it a good thing. There is a fine line between good exposure and not so good exposure when firearms are concerned.

The other aspect of this is that even if it plays out in a generally positive way it doesn't provide much support to RKBA for us 'normal' folks.

Celebrity and police officer... two groups are generally afforded a somewhat different status than us regular folks anyway. I'm not seeing much reason in that type of pairing for anyone to change their mind about the goodness of their next door neighbor having a sizable gun collection or whether I might ever need to defend me or my family while eating dinner in Waikiki.

Then following your average CCW holder around would make for some pretty boring TV, with the overwhelming majority going years without ever having to resort to going to step one of the holster draw much less full blown combat.

As always...just one man's opinion...

What the big deal.

Sounds like eltist are getting more perks. In no way does this make them supporters of the RKBA except for elites like themselves. Its not like the actors went to get their own personal CCW, they are becoming reserve Police officers.

CBSBYTE - " ... they are becoming reserve Police officers."

The article was rather vague as to the "duties," etc., of the "stars."

In most larger jurisdictions, sworn Reserve police officers and deputy sheriffs go through the same Academy as the Regular officers, except it takes longer, because of different Academy hours and schedules. Or, sometimes the time is shorter due to accelerated training hours per day and night.

Of course, there are exceptions, such as when a police chief or sheriff starts handing out badges to "the swells" ... usually for "donations."

I kinda doubt that these "stars" did even one day at a POST academy.

As for Estrada, he's an NRA member and longtime shooter. Don't know about the others.

You can bet your last dollar, these "stars" will never be in one second's danger "out on the street." That ain't hardly how it works in show business.

FWIW.

L.W.

Yeah, Elvis was another wonderful representative for the RKBA. If Robert Goulet happened to be on TV when Elvis was around, the TV got shot.

Sheesh, I can walk right by a TV with Rosie O on it.............

Have you seen the Elvis commemorative inlaid revolver on the Christmas AR cover?

Hell, if it had a nice engraved picture of him shooting his TV on it, rather than whatever tripe is on it, I might just BUY one!

Never cared for his acting but Erik Estrada is a long time shooter and has participated in many events sponsored by the NRA. Don't know about the others.

One time Elvis appeared, unannounced, on the White House steps, got shown in, and presented Nixon with a customized .45.

Impressive.
When exactly did that happen?

^^
NIXON, RICHARD MILHOUS
Thirty-seventh president of the United States. On December 21, 1970, Elvis showed up unannounced at the White House and asked to meet with President Nixon. While there Elvis presented President Nixon with a commemorative World War II Colt .45 pistol in an encased wooden box. Elvis then asked the President for a Narcotics Bureau badge which Nixon provided. Elvis and Nixon communicated on several other occasions including calling each other when each was hospitalized on different occasions. President Nixon asked Elvis to perform at the White House in 1975, but Colonel Tom Parker stepped in and requested a payment of $25,000 for Elvis's services. The White House informed Parker that no entertainer has ever been paid for such an engagement to which Parker informed the White House that Elvis doesn't play free for anyone. Once again, Parker's greed stood between Elvis and a historic opportunity.

A 'lesser celebrity' than Erik Estrada?

LOL. My thoughts exactly!

I believe a "lesser celebrity" than Erik Estrada would be anyone never having appeared on TV or in the media.

Hip Hop recording artists have been supporting our RKBA for decades. This is nothing new.

To quote Brand Nubian in their song "Pass the Gat"

We get wreck with the tech, blow your mind with nine
Plus we got the shotty for your body

Indeed. A nine for the mind... a shotty for the body.

True today as the day they were spoken.
