I haven't posted here much in a while, so I figured I'd put up some targets from yesterday.

I've been shooting 168 SMK's in my .308 PSS, but I decided to try out the 175's to see if they would shoot. I shot a series to figure out how much powder it likes, and came up with 43 grains. This is the 5 round target, shot at 200 yards:

At 200 yards, it put 4 of the 5 in 0.32", and the fifth opened it up to 0.91".

Corbon was also nice enough to send me a free box of 175 ammo to try out. (Please don't call them to ask for free ammo, this was a 1-time deal, and they got flooded with requests.) Since they did this, I'm trying to let some others know what I found of their ammo. It's top-grade stuff, made with Lapua brass, CCI Benchrest primers, and 175 SMK's. I shot 3 5-round groups with it, 1 at 100 yards and 2 at 200 yards. The targets:

At 100 it put 4 in .53", with the fifth opening it up to 0.78"

At 200, it put all five in 1.26" and 1.28".

So, even from a factory gun, this ammo was shooting closer to 1/2 MOA than 1 MOA- good stuff indeed.

Good shooting there! Now take your rifle to a 1000 yard F class match with the 175 grain ammo, and see what it will do. Just remember to leave any 168 grainers at home, less you be tempted to shoot that at 1000 yards. The people in the pitts will hate you for shooting bullets that go though the target sideways or fall just over the berm. Email me and I will tell you where to put your name on the list for Ft Gordon.

You know, I've never though about shooting F class- I didn't realize there was a range that held F class comps within a reasonable distance. Do you shoot it regularly? I would like to learn about it- what would be the best websites to spend some time reading?

Thanks!

there are F class matches at Fort Gordon? I'm stationed here at Gordon and hadn't heard anything about it.

They are not F class matches per se, but they have organized 600/1000 yard prone shoots where you can shoot an F class rifle with bipod or sandbags if you wanted to. See the SC high power website: http://forums.delphiforums.com/SCHP/start

The dates have not been published yet, but it normally is the 3rd Sunday of the month, starting in February and ending in October or November. In October we have the SC long range shoot competition. The 3rd Saturday of the month is a 600 yard across the course shoot. Come out and shoot, we need people to keep the interest going and the range open. If you have a medic certification, so much the better. You don't have to be a PSMA member either, but it will save you $5 a match. Match fees are $25 for non members, $20 for members. You need to get your name on a list to be admitted to Ft Gordon, and undergo a background check. See the website above.

For more info on long range and F class shooting, see http://www.long-range.com

PSMA 2007 Ft. Gordon Schedule

XTC= Across the course LR= Long Range

Unless otherwise noted, XTC matches are 80 shots, LR matches are 1X600 A/A, 1X1000 A/A, 1X1000 Iron

Unfortunately, Sundays don't work well for me, as I'm a Sunday School teacher for the teen class at church. Thanks for the links you sent, I'll see if I can find any matches held on Saturdays. Looks interesting!
