A young staffer at a well-known Internet ammo/fishing supply website told me that just this afternoon.
I had asked him about ordering standard polymer-coated Wolf, either 500 or 1,000 rounds.

Is this a marketing tactic calculated to induce a shopping frenzy all over the Internet, or was his information quite mistaken?
I'm wondering now whether some other websites are out of stock for quite awhile, but the web pages are not at all updated.

Its common to be on backorder at lots of places for ammo.

Sportsmans Guide is notorious for this....Ive waited up to 6 months for ammo I ordered.

Cabelas isnt as bad, longest wait there was 6 weeks.

Its common.....

Two years ago ordered 5K rounds from Sportsmans Guide. Was advised a long back order period would be involved. Took close to year to get the order and they advised me several times of the order status. Price of ammo doubled in that time but they honored the original price and did not charge me until the order was shipped. Have nothing to say but good about that company.

Don't deal with the internet folks who never order your ammo until you do. :banghead:

Stick with the companies who keep a reasonable stock in house. :scrutiny:

If a guy ordered G. Tiger during this weekend from a website, then noticed polymer-coated ammo, would they normally be willing to switch your order after receiving a fax?

Ignition Override,

Why not ask them before you ordered?

The above link can compare total cost including shipping. They also link you to a vendor. I use it to cruise different ammo calibers. I like how one click will give you cost per round with shipping.

Best deals right now are:

Ammoman.com for Golden Tiger, 1K 123 gr FMJ rounds for $195 shipped.

Dan's Ammo for Barnaul, 500 rounds for $99, shipping not included. This does allow you to mix and match the FMJ, HP, and JSP however.

Wolf is more than that everywhere else, although Ammoman.com is really close to its Golden Tiger prices. Cope's is close, but slightly higher due to shipping costs. In other words, you can get Golden Tiger from Cope's for what you can get Barnaul from Dan's Ammo. No contest, in my opinion.

Notorious is maybe too strong, but I've been very happy to order backorder ammo from Sportsman's Guide and lock in the lower price now for future delivery. They do not charge your credit card until its shipped.

Scored big on cases of Fiocchi .45ACP FMJ. Ordered four cases at $165/1000, by time they shipped you were doing great to find .45ACP for $230/1000, now $300/1000 is looking pretty good for reloadable brass cased ammo.

Only once have they charged the "new" higher price, that was my last two cases of 9mm Wolf. I placed my order at $137.72/1000, but the invoice in the package said $151.97/case. A quick Email to customer service with a copy of my order confirmation got the price difference credited back to my account. $28.50 saved is $28.50 earned!

Wolf is certainly available all over the place right NOW if you want it for ~$200 shipped. I have also had 6 month+ back-orders with Sportsman's Guide but they have kept the low price at which I ordered. My last case of 1000 7.62 Wolf shipped from SG for $135 plus shipping.
