Get yourself a functioning car horn, a 12V battery, some wire, a clothespin, a little bread bag fastener and something to use as a tripwire.
You can make a hell of a noisemaker with those items and you won't blow anyone up. It shouldn't cost too much either. Most of that stuff could probably be scavenged from the stash you are trying to protect.
The construction is pretty simple and it will continue to emit a blaring car-horn noise until the battery dies. That will be for a really long time.
Who wants to hang around a really loud attention-getting-old-lady-across-the-street-calling-the-cops noise when they are doing something illegal?
