something is strange with ammo sales

I believe you guys ... I hope this never happens with bread in this country.
Maybe I need to start a site called bread broker.
It may happen with bread. That's why you need the ammo.

IMHO much of the ammo on GB is from speculators. I have ammo I could make 2-3 thousand percent profit from. But it would cost all the profit to replace it. I feel I have very little ammo, With ten revolver/pistol calibers and over ten mil-surp calibers I need ten thousand rounds to feel I have enough, I don't have enough.

I bought 200 rounds of 9mm this week at only slightly ridiculous prices and that is because I plan to do a lot of shooting this weekend. Both LGS I went to on Wednesday had 9mm in stock for around $15 for ball but several people made purchases in the few minutes I was in the stores.

As long as stores are actually receiving ammo, and they are, then I am okay with it. People, like myself, are still buying extra and are willing to pay higher prices for now. In a couple of months I think that will change and supplies will catch up to demand. The LGS will start running ammo at good prices to keep it moving and the pipeline will fill back up.

Ammo is out there but the demand is so great popular stuff like .223, 9mm and .22LR disappears within about 3 hours and what is left is the expensive stuff. People are worried about many things mainly if the idiots in Washington keep spending and creating more money the economy will eventually collapse resulting in societal mayhem. What do you think the current prolithic use of the term "Zombie" is all about?. Other factors such as worries of large taxes and restrictions on ammunition are fueling a tremendous demand for ammo. Even reolading and casting stuff is being gobbeled up and backordered for months. From what I see most of the ammunition being bought today is not being shot just stored. until the demand subsides the situation will continue - hopefully the market will soon become saturated and we will return to normal.

I am getting my 9mm at $15-$16 a box also. One store had wwb 100 pack for 32 bucks. Except 22lr, I can get my hands on anything. They are limiting to 100 rounds per caliber a day though

I've been able to buy .40 S&W all through the panic. That seems strange to me. I have all I need. I had all I need before the panic started but I see lots of it on shelves. But almost all other pistol calibers are off the shelves. I can't even find obscure calibers now. But I see .40 almost everywhere I go. I see a good bit of .45 ACP too but there's never any .45 LC for example. I haven't seen any .380 since this all started. I haven't seen much 9mm either. I do see some .22 shorts once in a while but LR is all but gone. I hear of stores getting it in and it lasts all of 5 minutes. I can't stand around Wally World for a week waiting for that one moment they have .22 LR.

You know, if nobody buys any ammo for 2-3 months, I'll bet the crisis disappears. In the end, its not those guys on gunbroker perpetuating this crisis.

Let me ask you this. If before a hurricane someone runs out and buys up all the portable gas generators at all the Home Despots and Lows and then sells them for 4X the price afterward. Is there something wrong with that?

Look at some of these sellers' feedback on Gunbroker. A whole bunch of them are brand spanking new with little or no feedback. Sure, I'm guessing some of them are just selling their personal stash but I would bet money on it that most of these low ranking sellers ran to their local Wally World and emptied the shelves and are doing it on a regular basis. Hell, if I didn't have a gig, I'd be doing the same. What kind of product gives you a 400% return? These SOB's are purposely fueling the panic.

I used to say..."hey, it's capitalism...blah blah blah", but after I've done a bit of research I will now say "It's fueling the crisis to price gouge."

Shooters should stop hoarding, too. Why buy 3 bricks of 22LR when 1 brick will last you 6 months?

Politicians...heh...yeah, I hope some of these jokers get caught with a kilo of cocaine in their car trunk or a pistol in their flight's carry-on. Nah, can't ever happen...

It is not. GB is private sellers that buy up the ammo from sellers like Midway and LGS and resell on GB. No ammo manufacturers or distributors sell through GB.

The end.

One day after SGAmmo had cases of CCI SV, bricks went up on GB from a dealer. Either they got a pallet like SG did, or they were able to buy a bunch of cases from SV at wholesale and sold back at retail (by the brick). They ended up getting run up to $100-120/brick....not a bad investment on the seller's part considering the case was $330/shipped (10 bricks).

I've sold a few bricks out of my case to some friends and forum members who weren't so lucky. Makes me wish I would have ordered two cases so I could have spread around my luck a bit more.

Hey, nobodys holding a gun to anyone's head to make them pay more than they feel comfortable doing. Pricing high is not fueling the crisis, FEAR is fueling the crisis.

The reason that Midway says unavailable is probably because their back orders got too far backed up. I bet they are shipping out ammo everyday, but just to people that ordered it back in December.

The crisis is far from over. I got an e-mail from midway that BCG were back in stock, I clicked the e-mail link 15 minutes after it was sent out and they already sold out. The same thing is happening to ammo. Plus when people buy ammo they buy all they can afford/get their hands on.

Just sit tight. Save what you got. Do some needed home improvement projects or something else constructive to take your mind off of this buying panic and reduce your down time. I suspect a spike in the frenzy once tax returns are in everybody's hands. It will eventually level out. We just need to wait it out. I hope...

I've been able to find everything I need (9mm, .45ACP, 5.56mm, 7.62x39), with the glaring exception of .22LR.

Seriously, I haven't seen any .22LR in over 2 months (except for ratshot/snakeshot). I don't get it.

Are ammo manufacturers cutting back .22LR production to focus on more profitable calibers?

Perhaps, but I doubt it. I would think a production line set up to load .22 rimfire would not be suitable for use for centerfire production. I think what is happening is that this is the mother of all panics brought on by the government's clearly stated intentions, and it is carrying over to all aspects of the shooting sports, including rimfire ammo. Just MHO.

Last week I bought two bricks of .22LR at a LGS for a pretty good price, and also picked up some .308 and .38 Special. Yesterday at another shop there was plenty of .308. Not all shops are without ammo.

I'm curious---why is it that shotgun ammo is plentiful, or seems to be, since the shotgun is such a formidable home defense weapon?

Could be cause you can't squirrel away 10,000 rounds of 12 ga ammo under your bed or in the apartment closet?

So who here has actually bought ammo from GB at those crazy prices? The sellers are free to ask those prices. They WILL slow down if there are no takers, you can take my word on this.
My wife and I have just put off our monthly range time until ammo becomes available on a regular basis again. The days of the $11 box of 9mm are gone though. the manufacturers and stores know that people are willing to pay double that now so it will be just like gas prices, they condition you to a $22 box and when they lower it to $15 you will think its a bargain..

I just bought some commie rifles because ammo has been plentiful for them and of course now that I have my rifles I cannot even find any of that.

You know, that was the thing that was always in the back of my head seeing all these guys gushing over and buying the $100 Mosin Nagants. All the cheap ammo for them is Berdan primed, and what do you do if your supply source of this cheap milsurp ammo is interrupted? Kind of like chess, it pays to be thinking several moves ahead sometimes.

^^^ You sir are correct. This is precisely why I went to the 5.45 round but alas that was apparently a mistake. And, if I am not mistaken one of the executive orders someone signed did away with the importation of this ammo correct? So, I basically just bought a baseball bat.

Don't know about the executive order, but wouldn't surprise me in the least. Reloadable brass, powder, primers, and bullets is where you want to be, but that should have been done prior to the election.

I suppose we will get new Privi Partizan. I am pretty well stocked up for my 10+ Mosins though. Even with this crisis it is still very easily obtainable at under 20 cents a round. My few thousand rounds should last me quite a while in my bolt actions and I will continue to stock up as long as prices remain cheap.

In July '09 a single private seller 'offered' 45,000 rds. of Russian 7.62x39 on Gunbroker-all at the same time. I counted at least that much.

His location was Keene, NH. Unless he was a licensed dealer, maybe that was hoarding?;)
It would have helped explain the shortages after the election in '08.

VegasAR15: Last night, noticing how cheap 7.62x54R ammo still is made me wonder how many people are now switching into or Back to MN shooting.
