On a different forum there was a discussion running about some guy N his gun safe with a electronic lock had gone west N he had to cut it open.... Which made me post a comment....

Many of you have a tactical plan, guns, food, water but....
Should there ever be a Nuclear event any of you with an electronic lock on your gun safe, within approximately 100 miles of such a event the resulting EMP would likely fry your lock foreaver... Do you have a plan B for getting at your gun's???

Now remember all electrical power will very likely be gone so no drills, saw's plasma cutters.....

Just something to consider....

A lot of safes with an electronic lock include a "trouble key" that can be used to unlock the safe as well. That would be my plan.

I'm more interested in how we're going to unlock this thread after the mods nuke it.

that was my justification to the wife to buy our safes with old fashion combo and key locks

A sledgehammer taken to the drywall right next to the safe. Or a manual jack taken to the floorsafe, if it be a floorsafe, so as to tip it over so that I may more easily bash in the safe bottom with the aforementioned sledgehammer.

Safes suck.

the keyhole right next to the electronic buttons works pretty well. If not, I got tools.
I don't believe it is smart to have an only electronic key safe. If the safe is connected to a battery/AC and the power is cut off, you are screwed.

Sorry, but if there ever IS an EMP event, there will be a LOT to have to work around.

And we are NOT going to talk about how to break into safes on an open forum...
