Something to consider concerning the Heller ruling...

Every couple of weeks my favorite other website, Slashdot.com, posts a different poll on a topic related to current events. This past week that poll concerned the D.C. Vs. Heller case. It looks like so:

Of the D.C. v. Heller decision, I think it's a:

1. Good (or even Great) decision

2. Middlin' decision

3. Poor Decision

4. Awful, crazy decision

5. Good reason to fill out a form 4473

6. What is it?


Now I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Slashdot is frequented by a good number of intelligent people, but not necessarily informed people. Because...

Just as many people chose the "What is it?" selection as the "Good (or even Great) decision" selection.
As important a decision as this case is, I'm gonna guess that this poll example isn't just a case of a lot of nerds who don't get out much, and is more indicative of the population of the U.S. as a whole. In fact, the general population may be worse. Even with all of the media coverage this topic has received in the last week, I'm guessing that a huge slice of the population doesn't even know that this landmark case exists, much less how important it is to the citizens of our country.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I am.

I think you will find that most of the US does not really care one way or another.

The poll question should have been worded:

Of the recent Supreme Court decision on the right to own guns, I think.....

You and I know it by the name Heller because we write it on our Forums. But the news media has been brodcasting and writing it as the gun decision, not the Heller decision.
