I had msitakenly bought some Moly Coated 139 grain Lapua Scenars...
So I said what the hell... my current .260 barrel is shot to hell so might as well try them.

Loaded them up with my favourite recipie 40.4 grains of N 550 and headed to the range. Low 50's temp, 20 -30 mph gusts, rain...
This is the result @ 100 meters... all measurements are edge to edge...
The barrel was cleaned to the metal as best as I could tell with KG1 and KG 12 prior to shooting the first group.

Post says N500, target says N550. I don't use Vit powder but I don't want newbies to be confused about powder choice with this load.

Nice shooting. Sometimes that just works out that way. Is that cm @ 100m or did you go American on us and use inches at 100m? Looks like inches. Probably better than I can do.

Thanks for the catch on the powder...

Inches @100m...

Savage F110, with a Lothar Walther 1:8 twist .260 Remington... barrell has well over 2700 rounds through it... Am just shooting up my loaded ammo at this stage before I switch barrels...

I'm looking to build a target rifle and was looking at barrel manufacturers. Lothar Walther was one of them that came to mind. After seeing your target and you stating that barrel has 2700+ rds through it and still holds that accuracy, that's pretty good.

Did the accuracy improved as the moly coated the barrel--last groups better than the first?

Rogn.. nope...
When I clean to metal the 1st group just tends to go haywire...

Thereafter I havent seen any real difference in accuracy. Only big difference is cleaning out Moly is a PITA.

my experience is that after you send a few molly bullets down range the groups really tighten up. i know many poo-poo moly bullets saying they do nothing for accuracy, cleaning and rust barrels. but i have found just the opposite. they are all i run now i have found them to be extraordinally accurate in my rifles. to me they are worth the extra expense.

it is easy to clean the moly out if you really want to. kroil and jb bore paste, it comes right out.

Joe,

Thanks for the JB tip... will try it.

Personally I will be going down the hBN route... I just wanted to try the Moly since I had the bullets lying around.

My experience shooting naked bullets has been that it takes about 10 shots to settle down... and then it will shoot consistently for the next 30-40 rounds. This being my only experience with Moly I was surprised at the barrell settling in so quickly... and then the groups going wonky so quickly as well. Maybe the wind did have a hand in it... will test again in a couple of weeks...

Kroil is not available... but KG-2 is which is simillar to kroil/witches brew.
