I was at my local range today and there were two LEOs in plain clothes shooting on the lane next to me. They fired 2,000 rounds of 9mm Federal (Classic I think; the shells were chrome). In 30 years of shooting I never saw two guys go through so much ammo in such a short period of time; I think it might have been department issue. When they were done they swept the cases into an enormous pile, looked at me and asked me if I reload. The brass is so clean I may not send it through my tumbler.

2 guys + 2,000 rounds in one setting!! :what:

Boy!
I bet that practice session did them a lot of good!

Sweet.

I shoot 150 maybe 200 if nine is all i'm shooting that day. I think i've shot 300 before.

ask them when they are going shooting next:D

I bet they only shoot once or twice a year. or it was not on there dime

The dept. was probably issuing forties and they needed to burn up the 9mm or lose it. It's as good a reason as any.

Still, nobody can benefit from shooting 1,000 rounds in one practice session.

I'd bet money all it did was reinforce bad shooting habits, if not teach flinching & jerking to get it over with!

Were they shooting MP5's?

I went through 1100 .22LR in one day but that was a full day.

I've been through a couple of intense training courses where you fired almost 1,000 rounds per day. It's pretty exhausting, but if you concentrate on making each shot count, it works.

Hope this helps.

We had a major match at our range last year. The round count for 3 days was 2500. And I thought that was a tremendous amount.:what: But to do that in a short period of time.

Well there's that Para vid where Jarret puts 1k iirc through one of their handguns. He had a whole team of mag loaders to keep the gun feed, but I can imagine with a number of mags, a good friend, a full-size 9mm, and a few hours with free ammo could result in a lot of brass.

My shooting buddy and I each normally shoot between 500 and a 1000 rnds per session. That is the facts of life when time is short you need to shoot a lot if you are going to get it done. The key is a lot of mags, being a reloader and focusing on one aspect of your shooting per session.

I will agree that I remember shooting 1000 10mm's in one session breaking in a Les Baer 10mm. I was pretty punch drunk at the end.

If you have enough mags, you can go through a thousand rounds pretty darn quick. I know I was out recently with my Sig 210's and I have around 35 mags for them. 8 rounds per mag, 35 mags, 280 rnds per mag loading session. I load mags while others change targets. I could empty all of the mags in about 25 minutes so by the next target change I was back to loading mags. I did 3 sessions worth that day and had a mag and a half of spare thus 850 rnds.
