hello all started working up a load ain .222 rem 17 grains of vit n 120 in a ww case speer tnt hp and a cci 400 primer also loaded 17.2 and 17.5 grains the 17 grain load is the suggested starting load in speer 14 when fired the 17 grain load cases were all very sooty but no problem with the other two loads in your opinion was this caused by the brass failing to seal chamber or was it caused by something else . Sorry the bullet was 50grains . Thanks in advance wj kerr

Yes, if the pressure is not up enough, the brass won't expand enough to seal the chamber effectively and you will get sooty brass, whether rifle, pistol, etc.

As you go up in charge weight you will see this stop.

Great little caliber. I wish I still had mine. What kind of .222?

Those 50 Gr TNT's have very little bearing surface so they will have less resistance than most 50 gr bullets, and will need a bit more powder to get the same pressure. The good part of that is they can also be pushed faster than some.
