Sorta unhappy about powder measure...

Update:

As you guys said. Here is the reply I received today from RCBS to my contact form enquiry.

"Hello Bill,

I have created a work order to replace the hopper for your 98908 powder measure under warranty. Please allow 1-3 weeks for delivery to the address provided. You will receive tracking information once these items have shipped from our facility. These items are coming by the United States Postal Service so there may be delays in delivery. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Chelsie Bennett | Technical Services Representative"

Thank you guys on the forum for all the help.

The Redding will be delivered tonight. I will just keep them both, I expect. I hate to return things just because I made a hasty decision in ordering. No, I do not have any further "drop tests" scheduled but "one never knows, do one".

Sounds like a new thread…drop test results.

I dropped my Lee breech lock press. Just missed my foot but broke the plastic side mount for the safety prime. Free replacement of course because they have the best customer service.
I think you should start a new thread. "Tooling and Equipment I've dropped in the Reloading Room, and the Consequences". That should make for some interesting reading. Also some insight into how well things are made.

Boy I have spent/wasted a bunch of money to "save" money reloading. The new Redding measure is awful nice. I loaded 50 with a 4.5 grain charge of P 38 last night. Sorta comparing apples and oranges since the Redding is 10 grain capacity and the RCBS is 25. They both do a nice job. I think the Redding with the smaller chamber does a little better with the light charges. I am not gonna do a big study. I will just assume that is true and use it. Two years ago I spent a week trying to decide whether to buy the Redding or the Uniflow. I went with the Uniflow because it was cheaper and I liked the mount that came with it. Now I have ended up with both measures. I packed up my Lee auto drum and the extra drums and the Pro Auto Disc (which I really liked using) in a box and they are headed either to Goodwill or the storage unit to save for 5 years before they get thrown out. The new hopper for the RCBS is in the mail.

Serious question—goodwill would take reloading gear?

Serious question—goodwill would take reloading gear?

They do if you leave at the self serve drop off and write your own receipt;-) In years past, I did buy some reloading equipment there, don't know about these uber sensitive days. I know in the past one of my LGS's had a big bin of used gear and and equipment that was free to anyone who wanted it. He had a sign "leave something you don't need, take something you do need, if you abuse this I'll shove a broomstick up your @ss". I don't think he was kidding about the broomstick either, and I dang sure never tested it.

That’s a fair exchange and punishment for gear. not sure it’s also fair for a penny at the register though.

I’m not sure I’ll temp fate with the goodwill angle and no gun stores around here have even heard of reloading (only partly sarcastic).

Or maybe they figure if you're one of those who break one you might "need" two. I have six......never broke one in 50 years, but I have at least every model they've made. I like them.

Just for everyone's information, RCBS's new Uniflow 3 Hopper screws on....new for them...and the insides are way smoother. They always worked for me, but I enjoy the newer ones most. Which shouldn't be surprising.

Acrylic can crack and break....so can the Pyrex aftermarket one....so can every hopper made except the steel black powder ones. My guess is that the OP's may have had a rough shipment and cracked it in an unnoticeable place. Or it was dropped unknown to him.

I appreciate RCBS quality everyday......but as jmorris mentioned. everything can break even your favorite brand....I appreciate RCBS service if and when it does. Seems today it's vogue to put down RCBS. It's uncalled for.

BTW, anyone try to order parts the little parts for Lee's APP? Most of them are free.....just ordered from their web site....not on the phone......and they didn't ask me if I even had one. (what I used to make my Summit/App from) Just added things to my shopping cart, and the price said zero. That's new for Lee? Mirrors more than one experience from RCBS.....not a bad direction.
What he said:):):):) (why don't we have a up finger gif?)
And Dillon Precision

Post it in the Pay It Forward thread and give it to someone who's just starting out.

Gotta chime in one this one.

I started casting bullets for the 9 and have some issues with the expanding die sizing my bullets. And subsequent swaging when I seat them.

I ordered a Lee 38 die set, but the expander is too long to size the 9mm

I call rcbs and they ask the dimensions for my slugged pistol chamber. This was an hour ago.

she suggested a 38 expanding die stem. No charge. Address, name, shipped.

rcbs, vortex, fenwick, costa. Best customer service hands down.

Received the replacement hopper yesterday. Got the broken rim of the old one out. Had to use a Dremel grinder and a screwdriver and a hammer. Popped the new hopper in. All is now well with the RCBS measure. I think the molding process for the step down on the end of the hopper leaves the hoppers weak there and acts as a stress riser. The hopper is 1/8"+ thick but the perfectly sheared ring around the failure appears to be less than 1/16" thick at that point. RCBS customer service is a fine thing The RCBS measure is a good measure except for a weak hopper.. The Redding is machined a little nicer. I have more measures than I wanted or needed with more money spent. Yes, I am gonna keep both, Nice to have a little luxury expenditure in the reloading room.

Good for you! Onward!

That, I agree with whole heartedly. ;)

My luxury expediture was $500 for this:

So I could make this for $19:

and these for a few dollars more......and it keeps on giving....;)

Notice the BIG Uniflow in the picture above.....

What model is that? What would you do or not do different? Tips? It's on my list of "wants", but hasn't yet been escalated to a "need".
It's a Creality CR10 version 2, which in now a hundred $ cheaper. Be glad to share everything I know and learned from the experience, but it's off topic here. Start a 3D-printed reloading tool thread and I'll contribute.....or p.m. me. Was convinced by jmorris that my "tinkering" habit could be turned into something really fun and useful with one. He was right.
