For the last few years I have limited my centerfire handgun collection to 9mm's only...so they could all dine from the same feed bag. Recently I reaquired the old S&W revolver bug and got a model 27 and a model 10. I have been spoiled by $10 per 100 9mm rounds and was disapointed when I had to pay double that for .38 specials. Is there a source or brand of .38's that are more in line with the price of 9's. The last .38's I bought were Isreal(?) surplus FMJ round and dirt cheap, but I can't find them anymore. What are some cheap but decent .38's... JACKETED ONLY please.
Thanks

I'm interested as well. I have a bunch of .38s and .357s, and it would be nice to stock up on some cheap range fodder. Good, reloadable brass and jacketed rounds are prefered, and available in bulk is a plus.

Thanks.

http://www.black-hills.com/

I would check to see if Black Hills is carried locally and look for the Remanufactured line BH does. The only jacketed in .38spl is 125 JHP.

I used to have a couple of places locally that carried the Black Hills line including the Remanufactured. The price was very competitive, great quality bullet and performance, plus the brass was quality.

I used a bunch of the 148 gr wc, and 158 gr SWC.

If reloading - I would check into Montana Bullets. http://www.montanagoldbullet.com/

I have shot a LOT of their bullets , including .38spl.

Fiocchi is another I use and like a lot. http://www.fiocchiusa.com/

Again the local guy (now gone) used to carry a lot of Fiocchi, and would get up and order for customers on special quanities as well.

There was time before WWB. :p
So, being as I supported the local Mom&Pop I bought the above loadings. Interesting thing is, there was so much positive about Black Hills and Fiocchi, he ended up carrying even more of these brands.

+1 on the Fiocchi. They manufacture a 158gr, FMJ standard pressure load that should be ballistically very similar to 158gr JHP/LSWCHP bullets. I bought 1000 rounds from Aim Surplus (I think) and I've been using them for practice. Wasn't too expensive at the time, or I wouldn't have gone that way.

Remington bullet

If you reload, Remington's bullet is hard to beat.

They have them in vareity of weight, and styles. I believe that you can get 100 of 125gr JHP for as low as $5.00

Check with Kiesler's in Jeffersonville Indiana. They're a big Fiocchi distributor.
Good guys to deal with and good prices as well.

Georgia Arms ammo is good stuff.
Natchez also has some good prices.
And don't forget good ol' Cheaper Than Dirt.

All of the above are unfortunately on the wrong side of the mountains for me. Any savings get eaten up by increased shipping costs.

Now that I am on the Wet Coast I use a lot of Miwall ammo.
They're at all of the local shows (we have 22 per year here) so I save shipping costs.

Don't forget the Winchester White Box ammo at good (?) old Wal-mart. The jacketed, 130 grain 38 Special goes for about $16/100. There are cheaper sources on line, but shipping costs often level the playing field.

I've run a lot of WWB (9mm, 38 Special, 223) through my guns with good results.

I would also go with the WalMart Winchester 100 rd box as stated above.
