been loading just for pistol last couple of years, grown fond of plated bullets (west coast, rainier). loaded up some .223rem yesterday to finish off some varget and speer bullets i had around and exercise the ar-15.

what is an economical source of mess-around bullets for 223? just want to punch holes in paper at 100 yards with reasonable accuracy.

-thanks

Just a thought a bullet that is economical and accurate is not going to be a 55gr FMJ or 62gr FMJ either. Most 55gr FMJ bullets are not that accurate, this is because the flashing of lead over the base. The best 55gr FMJ is made by IMI and will probably be the most accurate, although I have read where Hornady 55gr FMJ offeirngs might be just as good. The best compromise is to watch Midway for Sales on Remington bulk bullets, and you should try and find the 50gr Rem PLHP. That is a solid bullet for paper punching, and it will do well for PD shoots. If you go with a faster buring powder like Benchmark or VV133 it should be nearly benchrest accurate.
