Is there anyplace or anyone who knows where a fella could get his hands on one of the new FN Winchester Model 70 receivers, complete with their trigger, bottom metal, and bolt? Are these even available if I don't have a buddy who works at the factory? Or should I just quit dreaming and pony down the $6-700 dollars for their cheapest line and try selling the stock and barrel which I have no use for. Plan is to build what the M40 would have been had they used the Winchester action. Thanks for any advice or leads in advance!

FN/Winchester does not sell receivers.
So your best bet is a buddy or yourself getting a job there.
But you/he should plan on a long stay in a federal gray-bar motel with a guy named Bubba The Butt Bandit if you/he attempts to steal one from the FNH Government arms contract factory in NC.
Your only source of a complete FNH/Win receiver is Gunbroker.com or a LGS/gun show for a beater donor rifle.

One or the other FN SPRs is probably already a fairly close approximation to the M40.

750 and some change for just the action alone vs 750 for a complete rifle with a (hopefully) saleable stock and barrel. The thought of recouping on some on un-used parts is a nice thought knowing a spendy barrel and stock, plus an optic is due. Don't get me wrong Montana makes a fine action and rifle, dang near bought one myself. But the Winchester's fine for me.
IIRC, a few years ago CDNN got ahold of a number of FN SPR actions (nearly same as W70), but AFAIK, they're all gone. My plan was to build one up, but instead found a nice rifle built on one. I'd check gunbroker, and various forum classifieds to see if you can find one of those FN SPR actions someone had laying around.
Yeah I found a ultimate shadow in .243 on gunbroker for around $600. That's the cheapest model that Winchester makes these days, and I'll still be cheaper than a MRC action and maybe I can get a few bucks from the stock and barrel. Boltface on the .243 gun will work fine for the .308 cartridge..
