I live in Northern Kentucky, near Cincinnati, OH. I have trouble around here finding black powder supplies. (Although I'm not too far from Friendship, IN - I should go over there, as I've never been.)

Does anyone know of any local (to me) retail sources for things like real black powder for my cap and ball revolvers, and percussion caps? I hate to mail order, as the HazMat fees are prohibitive.

These guys are distributors for GOEX:
Dodson and Company
Box 277
Rio Grande, OH 45674

and

Deer Creek Products
P.O. Box 246
Waldron, IN 46182

Considering the price of gas at $4/gallon and the local mark up prices for black powder, it can be more expensive to drive much of a distance to buy some.

You may be able to find NMLRA muzzle loading clubs in your area to contact to see where it may be available. Club members are usually very friendly and helpful. Here's a page to find clubs by state and their contact info.

Graf & Son has a very reasonable shipping charge. Right now they offer free shipping on $60 or more ending midnight, April 28, just pay the hazmat fee. That's a savings of $4.95 off their regular low "shipping included" prices.

Maybe someone else will chime in who knows about BP availability in your area.
Good luck. :)

Try The Bass Pro Store in Cincinnati

Many Bass Pro Stores do sell it.
A person needs to ask the gun dept. manager for it because it's kept in a safe.

Other folks have bought black powder at Bass Pro, and a Bass Pro customer service representative said that most of their stores do stock black powder.

Bass Pro Shop in at the Concord Mills shopping mall. Its in the town of Concord, but is actually just outside Charlotte, NC on I85. I had to ask for it at the gun counter, the sales clerk told me they kept it stored in a safe.
It is Goex, 1 lb for $25 for FFFg.

Another thing to do is hook up with black powder shooters at a local cowboy club. Many times, they get together & buy a case from one of the major suppliers. Much cheaper & spreads out the hazmat fee.
