South Dakota Offers Vet Bonuses

Week of January 15, 2007

The state of South Dakota is paying a veterans' bonus of up to $500 to certain servicemembers. Bonuses are available for servicemembers who:
(1) were legal residents of the state for at least six months immediately preceding entry into the armed forces;
(2) are currently on active duty or were honorably discharged from the armed forces;
(3) served on active duty during one of several periods. Application forms may be obtained by writing to: SD Veterans Bonus, 500 E. Capitol, Pierre, SD 57501, or by calling (605) 773-7251. Forms can also be requested by e-mail by writing to [email protected]. Writers should include their name, street or post office box number, city, state and zip code.

I put this in for SD members but I wanted to add that some States did this 33 years ago to Vietnam vets for $200 and the purpose was to collect State income taxes from those out-of-State and then owed taxes..

Anyone know the truth?
