Yep, the gosh-darn-man of fighting with a gun up close & personal will be here for Practical Unarmed Combatives (the prerequisite) & Extreme Close Quarters Concepts 1 & 2 Oct 19, 20 & 21. PUC will be held in Lakewood & ECQC will be in Elizabeth.

If you want to take just PUC you can, the cost is $95. You can also take PUC & ECQC 1 if you can't make it on Sunday, cost is on request for that one, or the full PUC & ECQC 1 & 2 for $400. The pre-registration is 1/2 the class fee. You must have either PUC or In Extremis Knife under your belt to take ECQC. PUC starts at 5:00pm on Friday the 19th.

If you do a search around here for ECQC or SouthNarc you'll find a lot of good info on these courses.

I am associated with Defensive Response Training, (the company hosting this class) I've helped them teach a couple NRA courses & have attended a number of classes they've hosted.

Shoot me an email at yammymonkey at aim dot com (replace the "at" with @ & "dot" with . & take out the spaces) & I will forward you on the registration forms for this class. We have 30 slots for PUC & 20 for ECQC.

Below is the syllabus so-to-speak that I have for PUC & ECQC.

ShivWorks
Practical Unarmed Combat
Core Concepts Module

The ShivWorks Practical Unarmed Combat (PUC) core concepts module is a 4
hour fundamental block of instruction that introduces the student to the
parameters and context of criminal assault. The student will learn how criminals
actually assault citizens in the real world and will initially focus on strategies and
tactics for challenging and preempting the potential assailant. The instruction will
then shift to immediate action procedures for spontaneous assault and how to
regain initiative with non-stylized basic tools.

Curriculum and topics covered

•Parameters and objectives of criminal assault
•Awareness and task fixation
•Kinesic and verbal challenge strategies for the potential assailant
•Recognizing pre-assault cues
•Hard focus scan procedures
•Preemptive striking
•Default position
•Basic blows and regaining initiative

Equipment required for the class is a cup and mouthpiece.

ShivWorks
Extreme Close Quarter Concepts (ECQC)

The ShivWorks Extreme Close Quarter Concepts (ECQC) course is a one
or two day block of instruction which focuses on a multi-disciplinary approach to
building functional, combative handgun skills at zero to five feet. The course is
designed to instill core concepts of seamless integration and provide the platform
for aggressive problem solving during a life or death struggle. A heavy emphasis
is placed upon commonality of body mechanics between skill sub-sets, which
means that all combative software is reinforcing. Once the student’s skill sets are
initially ingrained, the participant will be stress inoculated with force on force drills
utilizing Simunitions and protective equipment.

Topics covered include:

Day One

•Diagnostics
•Introduction to the components of the Combative Drawstroke
•Building the #2 position in live-fire
•Firing throughout the horizontal line of presentation
•Off-hand fending positions
•Default position
•Basic empty hand blows
•Theory of in-fight weapon access
•Grounded basics

Day Two
•Challenging the potential attacker
•Preemptive weapon access
•Muzzle aversion within draw-stroke
•Negotiating the F.U.T.
•ECQ Handgun retention in holster
•ECQ handgun retention out of holster
•Handgun recovery
•Handgun striking

Equipment required
Holster, pistol, two magazines, eye & ear protection, heavy sweatshirt, mouthpiece and cup, 200 rounds of ammo.
This class is not recommended for beginning shooters and prior documented training or instructor approval is required. Students should be relatively fit as this is a contact class. Most of the latter half of each day will be spent utilizing Simunition marking cartridges and FIST helmets, to allow the students to gain confidence in applying their newly acquired skills against moving, aggressive opponents.

If you're near a radio on Wed at 9:00am tune in to 103.5 The Fox for the Lewis & Floorwax show, they're going to have Mr. SouthNarc himself on for an interview.

ETA:
This will be my last post on the subject, (with the exception of an AAR next week sometime) I would have included this info with the last post, but the "gig" was just semi-finalized today.
