Hello Everyone,
Just picked up my SP101 357 revolver. Took it to the range and shot both 38 and 357 through it. I then noticed a slightly raised area underneath the cylinder release. I am 99% sure it was not there before I started shooting. I tried to look at pictures on the web to see if other SP101 had the same thing but couldn't find any. What are you thoughts as what it could be? Just a side note. The cylinder is extremely tight to open and close. I have a GP100 with thousands of rounds through it that one opens like butter. I am sure the new SP101 is just new and tight, but seems tighter then usual. Thanks.

The small raised lip just below the cylinder release? Unless it is peened out I wouldn't worry about it. To me it looks like a QC failure on the finish machining, as are the chatter marks on the recoil shield. There is a slight possibility there was a void in the casting, but I would expect cracking if that was the case.

Thanks Rad,
I think it's just the machining also. I must have overlooked it when I bought it. Yes, under the cylinder release.

I'll bet the extra tightness of the cylinder would get you a free trip back to Newport, and perhaps some treatment of the void/machine marks.

Probably by the time you put thousands of rounds through it, it'll open easier too. Endshake increases, frames can get stretch, surfaces mate and wear. I wouldn't worry about either condition if I were you.

I took the whole gun apart. Gave it a good oiling and put it back together. It already feels like it loosed up a bit. Thank you all.
