who does it, who's tried it, how's it worked for your and most importantly what holster did you use??
 
Tried It...

....didn't like it. I have a SP 101 in 3 1/8" bbl config and figure it was too heavy for pocket carry. But more importantly, was difficult to draw without snagging on the lining of my pocket.

I carry my Mak in my shorts pocket - and my snubby Taurus 85 but have an IWB holster for the Ruger that I think is the best option for carrying it. Not to say I couldn't carry in a (large!) pocket, just that the gun I think is meant for diffeent options.
 
My SP101 is just too heavy to pocket. I prefer the thunderwear I bought for it, much more comfy, a little harder to get at, but better than IWB for me. I can carry it IWB, but it just disappears and I'm not so conscious of it in the thunderwear. It's all day comfy that way even with a Hogue grip. If I wanna pocket a revolver, I'll go to my Taurus M85UL, 17 ounces, barely notice the extra weight.

I've been wearing that thunderwear a couple of months now and I really wonder why I never tried it before. At first, I thought it a little awkward to draw from, but you get real used to it after a while. It's a little tougher getting to it while seated, its main draw back. You sorta have to stiffen up to draw while seated, but it's doable.
 
I own a spurless model

I have big jeans...I have a 40 inch waist and wear 44-32 in jeans. So I have had good luck with bigger pockets. I feel comfortable carrying my spurless SP101 in my back pocket and in front pocket. although the front pocket isnt as smooth for me to draw and I print more due to my shirts not being long enough.

Its not comfortable by any means but I have done it in the past...I perfer my IWB don hume holster anyday
 
I will second the above. I have a 42" waist and am about 6'-1". The jeans I wear have large pockets albeit a bit less than some of my dress pants. I carry a 2.25" SP spurless hammer in a Kramer pocket holster. It works. If one can pocket carry a 22.5 oz Model 60 a 24.5 oz SP should not make much difference. Now, an aluminum or scandium frame would be definitely far lighter.

I have carried a 2 1/8 spur hammer SP with Houges in the front pocket, no holster, when a belt holster isn't an option. As others have stated, it is a little on the heavy side, but very possible....I would rather be uncomfortable and armed.


Also, pocket carry is far too slow for weapon presentation and is reserved only when absolutely necessary.
 
It's OK for a heavy winter jacket, but only if you get it bobbed. It's vastly easier to pocket carry a DS or J Frame size revolver and they actually work well in a pocket holster.
 
Slow? I submit that it's the fastest presentation you could possibly use with a gun like the 642 smith or my Kel Tec P11. You're walkin' along with your hand in your pocket on the gun already. No one's the wiser. All you have to do is draw and fire. With IWB, you must lift shirt with off hand, grab gun and draw, all without having the gun in your grasp, much slower. I prefer pocket carry, but the SP is a little large. I normally carry my P11 or M85UL in a pocket. I'm only 210 and 6 feet. LOL. The pockets are big enough for the gun with carpenter's jeans, I just don't like my jeans saggin' that much, the weight bothers me while the weight of a sub 20 ounce gun doesn't. To each his own. There's plenty of ways to carry concealed. You just have to determine what's best for YOU.
 
I use Kramer or Galco leather pocket rigs, and occasionally Uncle Mike's synthetic, to pocket an SP101, depending on the size and shape of the pocket. As for the wisdom of using pocket carry, well, it is situational. When seated, or bent at the waist, pocket carry is slow to deploy. When walking along, through a bad area, hands in pockets, on high alert, pocket carry can be the single best way to go. If, while walking, the hand leaves the pocket to pick the nose, and the bad guy strikes at that moment, the defender will naturally bend at the waist, and that pocket gun will be quite difficult to access. Pick your nose with your offside hand! ;) There is nothing wrong with changing carry mode to suit the circumstance. A pocketed snubby can be moved into a different rig when getting into a vehicle; perhaps a shoulder rig or IWB worn forward of the hip. Or, of course, carry more than one snubby, one for the pocket, and one somewhere else. :)

I tried my 2 1/4" .357 (spurred hammer) in a High Noon Pocket Grabber. It was just a little too bulky and heavy. Of note was that I never snagged the exposed hammer during practice draws, the holster coming up high enough to shield it somewhat.

I carry in jeans, dockers, 5.11's, shorts, etc using this holster. No problem. Yeah it's a little heavy, but that weight also helps it shoot very well. I'll take a little weight for improved shootability.

Tried it for with a 2.25" spurless in a custom leather pocket holster. Way too heavy in a pocket for my taste.
 
Pleated-front khaki slacks and an Uncle Mike's pocket holster do pretty well for me until I sit down and the pants go tight across my thigh. Never had anyone comment and if I am at a restaurant, I just put my napkin over that leg.
 
I have worn out an Uncle mike's pocket holster before and now use the DeSantis Nemisis. I like 'em both and have pocket carried an SP101 longer than I care to admit (over 7 years now)
 
Wrangler Riata slacks work well with pocketed SP101 snubbies. I have carried a pair of them that way quite a few times.
 
When deciding what pocket revolver to purchase a few months ago, I went to a friend (on THR, Action_Can_Do) who owns a 3 1/8" SP101. I tried it out in the pocket, but I was less than pleased. I settled on a 642; it best filled the role I wanted. There was also a Taurus (650?) that was just as good. Also, last week I received the Desantis Nemesis, and that has turned out to be a fine holster. Without one I was uncomfortable with the gun moving around in the pocket and with the possibility that a hole could develop in my pants over time from parts sticking out, especially the barrel (a common problem of pants that I own and keys I used to carry).

SP101 for pocket carry? Works for some, not for others, but definitely worth a try.
 
Tried pocket carry way back when. I felt the gun was too heavy for that and belonged on the belt.

Since it was going on the belt, I went with a bigger gun. I pocket carry a S&W 442 and my belt gun is a S&W N-Frame 4"er. That's Off-Duty. On-Duty I carry the crap they issue me.

I usually carry a Sig 239 inside the waistband, but when I do not want to put on a big IWB holster and I'm just wearing shorts, I use my 2.25", DAO SP-101 with a Desantis Nemesis pocket carry holster. Pocket carry is now the only way that I carry the SP-101, even though I have two other holsters for it, inlcuding this really nice Hoffner's holster.

I am 6" and about 230#. It is a little heavy in my pocket, but not enough that it bothers me at all. It conceals pretty darned well. I just have to make sure that I have a shirt that covers the pocket opening. For me, this is the most relaxed and flexible carry method. It's very comfortable for me, even more so than my Sig 239 most times. This is perfect carry here in Texas when it's warm most of the year and shorts are the preferred pants choice.
