Hello all. I have a question regarding a Spanish 1895 carbine I came across some time ago. The carbine is one of those nice stocked-to-end-of-barrel type. It really is a beauty. Anyway, I came across it at a local pawn shop but I thought I couldn't bring myself to paying what they were asking for it, even if I'd had the cash then . Anyway, I have still been thinking bout it and I know they still have it. I know pawn shops have layaway plans, but still, would $600 :( be a fair cost for one of these presently?

Some of the military mauser carbines are worth that much or more, but distinguishing between true carbines and fakes can be tricky. Before buying, notate all the markings, dates, and stamps then consult a copy of Military Mauser Rifles of the World. Once you've truly verified what you're looking at you can check out gunbroker and the collector's forums to see what the actual value should be. In no event would I trust a pawn broker's price without a lot of cross checking.

maybe, if it were REALLY nicely done. But otherwise, Spanish Mausers are typically in the $125-$200 range, sporter or original.

Have you snapped any photo's?

No pics of it.Just had a hunch that they would go for quite a bit, but didn't expect they would go for so little. $125-200? I'm gonna do the research and see what I can come up with.

If it is intact and in good/very good condition it is easily in the $350 range. Superior examples may go as high as the $600 but I don't think you'll find one of those in a pawnshop (but one never knows do one?).

Spanish made 1895's are not worth $600 unless owned by Franco. It's been proven time and again that Spanish Mauser metalurgy was the worst mausers every made hardness wise. So only provenonce would push one that high. I've got one which looks new and paid $99.95 last year in apawn shop. I just bought it because it was very nice looking little carbine and had a very clear Fallange crest.

A true Spanish Model 95 Carbine is as follows:
- 17.65" Barrel
- Stocked to the muzzle
- Front sight ears reminiscent of an SMLE
- No cleaning rod
- Will be marked either Mauser Oberndorf, Ludwig Loewe, or Fabrica de Armas Oviedo
- NO rounded cut in the left receiver wall
- Lanyard ring rear sling attachment point
- Rear sight marked for 400-1400 meters
