Does anyone know the mount that would fit on a M1916 Spanish Mauser? I'm thinking of finally "taking the plunge" and scouting the thing. But, the front band that holds the handguards onto one another tends to slide foreward with recoil when I'm firing it, which would need to be fixed before I mount it. So, anyone got any recommendations to fix both my problems? Thanks in advance!

I bought the B-square M96 mount from Midway for my 1916 Spanish. Wasn't impressed. It is designed to mount to the rear sight leaf. I'd avoid that one if I was doing it again.

After further study on the situation I found that the Mosin Nagant mount sold by CDNN would have worked fine with a minimum of modification (perhaps none). It would easily replace the rear sight leaf leaving the rifle easy to restore to original condition. As it stands I'll have to by a new rear sight leaf to replace the one I drilled to make the other mount work.

Good luck.

Mauser Scout Mount

Deputy Vaughn has the right idea...

Find something that "fits", cuase there is nothing yet on the market and may never be, specifically for the Spanih Mauser. My front retaining ring also kept coming off during firing...I ended up buying a RamLine stock fom Midway for about $69.00, IIRC.

I ended up using an AR-15 carry handle mount and a "brass hammer" to scout mine. I bought it at a gunshow for $10.00 and removed the screw for the AR Handle, then used the "brass hammer" to nudge it into place. I left the leaf spring in place to apply upward pressure and drilled through the mount for the pin that held in the rear sight leaf. Last, I re-tapped the leaf spring for a screw that would fit through the mount and the spring into the barrel. Viola

Here's a thread that includes a pic or two...

Good Luck.

So, there's no other way to fix that other than buying a new stock? I like the "milsurp wood" look :( . So, how is it that the MN mount from CDNN works on a Mauser :scrutiny: ? Nice looking rifle, DeputyVaughn. Any range reports from that thing yet since it's in scout config?

Sorry, I didn't mean to infer the only way to fix it was a replacement stock, I just said I had the same problem. As best I could tell there was no way to fix it and keep the gun "original", so I replaced the stock. I'm sure you could drill it through and put a pin in it and that would work just fine or any number of other ideas.

Didn't mean to offend you... :uhoh:

The Mosin Nagant scout mount I mentioned is intened to replace the rear sight leaf on a Mosin Nagant. It just so happens that the width of the rear sight leaf is almost identical. the pin holes may be slightly different but the mount replaces the pin with screws so it should work fine. The next time I order something from CDNN I'll probably add one of the mounts. For me, it wouldn't justify shipping to order one by itself being I've already got a functional mount. The mount is listed for about $12.95 I think. Minimum shipping with CDNN is $9.00. So I'll wait till I can make the most of one shipment.

Weather and other circumstances have prevented my getting to the range. I did a preliminary 25yd sighting in in my back yard with good results. It also helped me be sure my mount would not shake loose. Further reports coming soon I hope.
