I have never heard a valid argument for not carrying a spare mag or clip of ammo.

I always carry at least one mag for an auto or a clip of six rds for a revolver. Sometimes I'll carry two, especially with the revolver.

One spare mag if I have the M&P .40 15+1 and two mags if its my 9mm 10+1
I have never heard anyone ever complaining about having too much ammo in a fight or a war.

spare ammo

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I,ve only had my ccw for a month so I'm still a newbie. I haven't found a reliable place to always carry the spare. Open for sugestions.

I carry everyday, 10+1 IWB .45acp. Hope that it gets me through difficult situation.

Where do you guys that carry two mags put them? Belt, pocket, wtsds.
Two mags seem a little paranoid, overkill, to me. Hopefully I would see the situation well before and run as fast as these old white legs can move.

One other thing about carrying an extra magazine: If a semi-auto jams, and you tap/rack/re-engage fime with that one mag it the clearing drill works; but what do you do when it jams again on the next shot? You rack to lock back slide if possible/strip magazine/rack to clear/insert new mag (whoops you don't have one, sorry you cannot have mine) rack to load/and in my case I would then re-engage. You who choose not to carry spare ammo, what would you do, throw your gun at the guy? You see 15 plus 1 does not do a thing if the mag causes the pistol to jam.

All the best,
Glenn B

I've never carried a POS pistol that would "jam" in a tight situation. I carry cocked & locked with a nice fresh factory round up the spout. I use a fairly light recoil spring for carry and a heavier one for practice so even if I "limp wrist" a bit in a stressful situation, the pistol will function albeit while tossing brass into low orbit.

I carry 3 full 15 round magazines for my .40 cal. You never know what may happen in today`s world. I just can`t bare the thought of gettin` caught without extra ammo when I know that I`ve got a thousand rounds at home. Maybe I`m watchin` too much T.V. but regardless, I`ll have 45 rounds on my person and more in the car.

All semi-autos, whether they be $300.00 guns or $2000.00 guns WILL jam at any given moment.

Sorry, but everyone would like to think that THEIR pistol wouldn`t jam but I`m afraid that the fact is that they will.

If you have EVER walked out of the house without extra ammo I hope you voted (sometimes I don't) 99.99% is not always.

I have carried my NAA .22 Mag or my .32 Seecamp many times without extra ammo. Now, in my car there is ALWAYS (%100 of the time) extra ammo. :D

Well this is just planed (still watin on the paperwork and all) but I'm going to carry 10+1 .45 on the right side and an extra mag + light on the left side.

I have been in many more situations were I wish I had a flashlight then wishing Ive have a gun, but the extra mag cant hurt anything either.

My Smith 915 carries 15+1, plus the fact that my lifestyle does not lead me into dangerous situations.

i think the idea of people carrying and not having a reload is sad. i carry a minimum of one and sometimes as much as 2 depends on what i am carrying, and what kinda clothes etc. cold weather, hi cap pistol and 2 reloads. shorts and t- shirt hi-cap gun and one reload, or kahr k-40 and 2 reloads.

In my expereince any pistol can jam, there are various reasons for such to happen, and it is not usually the fault of any mechanism in the pistol itself, but rather mostly is due to the shooter, to fouling, to the magazine, or to the ammunition. Of course should your pistol ever fail, I would have to think it had to do with the light recoil spring, and therefore would have been shooter/human error because apparently you are the one who put that weak spring in it. The thing is though any handgun can fail to function as it should. If a pistol does fail to function, you may or may not follow the above clearing drill, if it fails to function again, you may or may not follow the second clearing drill with the insertion of a fresh magazine. If you prefer not to do so, that is up to you, but please don't try to imply that only poorly made pistols have a chance of jamming, and that your pistol cannot jam. I have been around firearms, have been shooting, and instructed for way too long to think that said implication is correct. I know that the implication is not realistic, the reality of the situation is that any firearm with moving parts can jam.

All the best,

I always carry at least two spare magazines, balances me out and keeps the magazine carrier from moving around as much.

I also often carry two magazines of one batch of ammunition and the third a different batch, it allows me to have redundancy in ammunition and test fire more rounds.

I carry a single reload always. I just bought another magazine for my .45. As soon as I know it feeds correctly I will carry two spare mags for that. As soon as I get another speedloader or speedstrip I will carry two spares for my .357. Same goes for the pocket pistols we have.

My 9mm LOL i carry 1 14+1 in the gun and 1 22rd hi cap in the holster then i have a 14 and 22 rd spares so total 73 rds if loaded

I like the 9mm.

I carry the Glock 26 with a 10 round mag in it and I carry either a Glock 19 magazine (15 rounds) or a Glock 17 (17 rounds) as my reload. So with either 26 rounds or 28 rounds I should be good to go. Yes I like that disgusting itty bitty Euro caliber. :neener:
