I am interested buying a SXS and have decided on either the Spartan 220 or the Baikal IZH-43. My local dealer has the 220. My question is: Is this the same gun as the Baikal? I realize that they both are made by Baikal. Is the 220 a IZH-43 relabeled?

I have enough brand guns. I now want a good beater and have narrowed my choice to these two. Help from those who know will be appreciated.

I want a simple double, 2 triggers, and extractors. Methinks I will buy the 220 if it is the same as the 43.

To my knowledge, same gun rebadged under Remington's importation agreement. The gun has "Baikal Russia" stamped on it. I have one in 20 gauge and am really pleased with it. I hunted doves and shot a few teal with it this season. Nice little SxS that didn't kill my wallet and that I can hunt salt marsh with and not worry much about messing up the looks. :D

I'm also thinking about buying an SPR 220.

My question, mostly unrelated to the original post: is it true that the single trigger baikal doubles are more likely to have problems with inadvertently firing both barrels (doubling?) than the double trigger models? That seems to be the case from the internet research I have done. I'm set on buying the double trigger 220 instead of the 210 for other reasons, but I'd like to know anyway.

Uh, and I've heard that about the single trigger guns, but I never really wanted one anyway. I want instant choke selection, part of the fun with a double. :D Actually, I've heard that thing about the single triggers as an overall thing about "cheap doubles", but not specifically about the Spartan.

My single trigger Baikal model has fired both barrels quite a bit. The more I shot it the more it let me down, I wanted to like it but just cant. It is now a wall hanger and wont be shot. Two barrels of target loads does a number on you when your not expecting it. I have learned my lesson no more dirt cheap new shotguns :barf: I wasnt expecting a top of the line gun just a working one.
