When I read the thread of the Lee bullets, it reminded of several years ago, I decided to try them in my T/C Hawken. My brother and I molded up a bunch. I figgered being lighter they wouldn't kick as hard as the T/C Maxi-Ball. I had just installed a homemade tang mounted peep sight on my Hawken, and had it sighted in good with the Maxi's.
A friend and I went out to a dump and painted a spot on an old refrigerator about 60 yards distant. Loaded up and POW. I barked a tree about 6 feet to the right of the fridge. "Maybe I bent my peep" I thought as I loaded up again. POW. A little tree about 10 feet to the left of the fridge fell over. "Hmmnnn" thought I, "that's weird." One more shot. POW, dust kicked up about 20 feet in front of me. Not one to jump to quick conclusions, I got a piece of 1X6 about 2 feet long and set it up at about 20 feet. In three shots I dead centered one, and hit each end with the other two.
I then loaded a Maxi-Ball and dead centered the paint spot on the fridge. And did it two more times.
Moral: If you see me shooting Lee REAL bullets, the only safe place to watch from is another county. Maybe two counties away.
