NRA Voting Member?
There are some BIG celebrities running for NRA board this year.
This is about someone you probably don't know. But you should.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Having formed an NRA Members' Council 9 years ago (and still president of it today), having created NRAWinningTeam.com 8 years ago, having served on the NRA's Nominating Committee myself and having "walked the floor" for President Heston in Seattle and Philadelphia, I have something to say about one of the candidates for the NRA Board of Directors this year.

Joel Friedman and Wayne LaPierre

I have come to associate this Benefactor member of our great association with the true vision of "grassroots". Joel Friedman was a founding officer of the 100% volunteer California NRA Members' Councils, creating a Second Amendment army-on-the-ground long before I knew what a Members' Council was. Joel formed the San Gabriel Valley NRA Members' Council as one of the first MCs and still leads them today. For the entire decade I've known Joel, he's been a dedicated member of the NRA Grassroots Committee, contributing his time and expertise in the halls of Fairfax. All volunteer, all the time.

Joel also develops effective media strategies for pro-gun candidates and organizations. He has even produced a one-hour video showing how to defeat anti-gun laws. Working with ILA, Joel developed the first "Media Training Seminar" to help teach others how to promote the shooting sports and defend our rights. Joel won an NRA grant to establish the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program in Pasadena schools. And it's not cost our NRA a penny. In fact, through his FONRA activities, Joel helps send money to the NRA Foundation.

I can only think of one place he belongs more - on the board! Joel Friedman is not a member of the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association, but we need to elect him.

Joel Friedman enjoys strong support of both NRA members and NRA officials alike. I ask that you consider these facts as you make your choices for the NRA board.

Oh, one more thing...

As you know, our home state of California is under siege. I believe NRA needs Joel's grassroots expertise, political savvy and personal California knowledge to stop the anti-gun forces here. This is important not only for California, but the nation, before this cancer spreads.

Please vote for Joel Friedman for NRA Board of Directors. To learn more about Joel, please visit:

I would like him to answer a few questions before he gets my vote. I don't expect a reply, but it would be nice for the board canidates to respond to questions.

1. Do you believe that the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land" and that the Bill of Rights acknowledges the birthrights of all Americans?

2. If so, should these rights be proactively protected from infringement by all levels of government, including city, county and state?

3. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider constitutional.

4. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider unconstitutional.

5. Does the right to bear arms include the right for any peaceable citizen to carry them concealed without a permit, as in Vermont?

6. Do you believe that Americans have a right to own, use and carry weapons of military pattern?

7. Do you support or oppose Project Exile, and do you agree with current NRA management’s call to “enforce existing gun laws

8. Do you support or oppose licensing requirements to own or carry firearms? Why?

9. What specific gun laws will you work to get repealed?

10. If elected to the NRA Board, will you back your words of support for firearms rights up with consistent actions? How?

Thanks for the questions, Jim! Good one's too. I hope my post didn't make Joel look unapproachable; I tried to stress he is VERY grassroots-oriented - one of us.

I called Joel's Office and learned that he was out of the office on business. I then called him on his mobile phone and he dictated the following answers, then added some comments. It's the best we could manage, him talking, me typing.

Mike

1. Do you believe that the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land" and that the Bill of Rights acknowledges the birthrights of all Americans? YES! Of course.

2. If so, should these rights be proactively protected from infringement by all levels of government, including city, county and state? YES! That is what I have been working towards for more than a dozen years.

3. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider constitutional. I believe that convicted violent felons should not be able to buy, own, or possess firearms. However, I do believe that non-violent felons should be able to buy, own, and possess firearms if their rights have been restored.

4. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider unconstitutional. Most of them. Including - Brady. AWB. Waiting periods. One-gun-per-month. Prior "safety" testing for purchase (or possession). Ban of ownership of any firearm by a law-abiding citizen.

5. Does the right to bear arms include the right for any peaceable citizen to carry them concealed without a permit, as in Vermont? YES!

6. Do you believe that Americans have a right to own, use and carry weapons of military pattern? YES! The Roberti-Roos (so-called) "Assault Weapons Ban" was the reason I became involved with the Second Amendment fight in California.

7. Do you support or oppose Project Exile, and do you agree with current NRA management’s call to 'enforce existing gun laws'? I do not support the way Project Exile has been administered and handled,. I do not support the fact that many law abiding gun owners have been, and could be, tangled in legal prosecution for things that might be considered a crime, but in all reality are not. Therefore, while the concept is admirable, in my opinion - It will not work!

8. Do you support or oppose licensing requirements to own or carry firearms? Oppose, of course! I'm not a criminal, and the government has no business knowing what guns I own or carry.

9. What specific gun laws will you work to get repealed? Most, if not all, of them. But being realistic and candid, some laws are going to be very difficult to repeal. Example: the CA AWB. We have been repealing these laws a piece-at-a-time for several years, and we have a long way left to go. However, in the same manner that the anti-gunners have succeeded in passing the un-constitutional infringements, the way to correct it is by incremental restoration. It will not be easy and it will take all of us working together. BUT WE WILL SUCCEED!

10. If elected to the NRA Board, will you back your words of support for firearms rights up with consistent actions? I already have a proven record. Look at http://www.joelforboard.com/ How? By adding the credibility and the influence of being a member of the NRA Board of Directors, I will become much more effective and influential, especially regarding policy issues.

TheHighRoad.org members,

Thank you for considering my candidacy for the NRA Board of Directors.

Your questions have demonstrated to me the need for more information on my web site. I will soon add these questions and answers as well as a method wherein others can also ask questions.

Thanks again for your interest and I would appreciate your vote for the NRA Board of Directors.

I'm impressed. I doubt you'd get some movie star to answer questions like that. I have never been a fan of the movie star thing. Mr Heston was an outstanding individual, and I think he would have been a strong leader even without the celebrity, but he's a pretty rare case.

More reading is in order, but I'm impressed.

Sounds good to me. This is my first time voting, are there any members running who aren't in the official list? I think it says we can vote for any voting member.

I would love to be a member of an NRA that behaves as joel proposes. The previous few administrations have been a bit too limp-wristed on most issues for my taste.

Does anyone think he stands a decent chance of being elected?

I'm tired of playing nice.
I want Attila the Hun in charge.
When they fall I wanna see another blow to insure there is no fakery involved.
I want their ashes in an urn.
And I want it on film at Eleven.

It's a stout heart Mr. Friedman needs and the will to attack relentlessly.
