How many of you hunt only one or two game species? Or stick to one type of hunting, for example bird or big game? How many of you hunt for just about any legal game and/or vermin?

If due to time or financial constraints you had to give up all hunting except for one, what would be the one hunting you wouldn't give up, or give up last?

I know both types of hunters.

I know guys that spend 99% of their hunting time on waterfowl. I know guys that will hunt deer to the point of obsession.

I hunt a little bit of everything. That probably prevents me from becoming good, but it also prevents me from becoming bored.

So, what kind of hunter are you?

Guess I am now just a deer hunter. Don't get to do much more Only game I miss hunting regularly is hogs. None really around here.

I am somewhat like Hardluk1. I like hunting so much that I will go turkey hunting if someone asks me, but I'm a deer hunting fanatic. I guess you could say I also hunt trout, because that's what fly fishing is when you compare it to other types of fishing, but as far as projectiles go... i primarily send them toward deer.

Well I hunt squirrel, rabbit, deer, moose, wild hog, dove, quail, chukkar, pheasant, and the unwary ground hog (I don't eat the ground hogs)..., but I hunt everything with black powder. Caplock SxS for the birds, all the rest flintlock rifle. So..., maybe that makes me a specialist?

I hunt a little of everything. Elk, mule deer, whitetails, antelope, grouse, ducks, pheasants, geese on a routine basis. Occasional bear and mountain goat. If me or my friends ever draw, there will also be sheep and moose. I mostly rifle hunt, but also a little muzzleloader and archery here and there.
I love mule deer more than anything else, so that's what I would give up last. However, for ease of hunting and success, it would be antelope. If it was all about meat, it would be elk or antelope.

Venison has been a staple, and deer hunting feels the freezer annually. Hunting for me is about what season is open, and what game is available. I've had a successful turkey season this year, and the reason I'm hunting turkeys, is because it's the only season that's open now.

My biggest problem with hunting, is my simple, one track mind...Once it get's on rail for one species, i have a hard time switching tracks. Once hunting season officially ends (day after tomorrow), I will clean the guns, switch tracks once again, and have the boat in the Gulf or the Atlantic as possible, trying to catch a fish that weighed more than my last deer..
With said, I will say that i am a multi specialized generalist.

Whitetails are what I take the most serious because that accounts for the majority of our meat on the table.

As far as pure enjoyment; hitting those hole digging, tractor damaging, hay and soybean eating vermin that we call groundhogs, at ranges that make you chuckle, (not to mention being an excellent avenue for other hunting permission) ranks up there as well.

Heck, a few of my most memorable hunts involve rats, chicken houses and .177 pellets.

Hunting is hunting..
